I would not be happy if we got rid of Shore. I think he's a fantastic bottom 6 player... has good size, seems to make the smart play, and does really well cycling the puck.

I don't expect Byron back next season, so that provides some space.

Sven is going to bounce around the league and then go back home...that is my prediction

I don't see why we have to regret any deal where the player we send away does well. Most NHL trades aren't a turd for gem exchange.

Granlund will probably stick as a bottom-6 NHL forward. Which is nice. But it doesn't make him untouchable. If you can move him for a young defenceman with similar potential, you do that deal in a minute.

Agreed in that I really liked what I saw from Shore when he was in the lineup. As for Byron I'm not so sure as Hartley likes him and he's great on the PK. Have the Flames had more than one or two breakaways since he got hurt? I know he missed a lot but eventually those would go in and you need that threat to keep teams honest.

Because I don't really see the point in dealing a gem for a piece of turd either if there really is no point.

I figure Sven's got one more team in him, either as a trade for a 4th or a waiver wire pickup.

If Sven's lucky he's Peter Schaeffer. If not he's Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson.

The point of dealing Grandlund would be to deal from a position of surplus in order to acquire an asset in a position of scarcity. And since most NHL GMs aren't idiots, if you're trying to pick up a defence prospect with a good shot of sticking in the NHL, you're going to have to give up a young player with the same value.

If all we're willing to deal are marginal prospects, then that's all we're likely to get in return.

If you think he's a marginal, bottom 6 forward, he's probably not going to get a defense prospect that has a good shot of sticking in the NHL. GM's aren't idiots.

Am I correct to assume that the Canucks are prevented from assigning Bo Horvat to Utica because of his limited AHL action this season?

They didn't put him on the AHL roster on trade deadline day therefore not eligible to be assigned to AHL after the trade deadline

In order to play in the AHL playoffs, he would have needed to be in the AHL at the trade deadline (even if it was only a paper transaction).

Because of his age (started the season as a 19 year-old and just turned 20), they would have been required to send him back to junior if they tried to send him down. His earlier stint in Utica was a conditioning loan, so they were able to get around the CHL transfer rule.

I see no reason to move him unless Max himself wants to be moved out and try his luck in another organization. Even if he can't make the NHL he would be a good veteran player on the farm. Just keep signing him to 1-year deals.

Sven was concussed at the 2012 World Junior Championships.

To me, he never looked the same after.

I hate the way his attitude appeared to change, but maybe one gets pretty desperate/frustrated when you are no longer able to play like you did before after someone runs your head into the boards. Glad we got something for him. Too bad he didn't pan out to what we hoped for.

Did anyone else catch the comment about Sven made by someone on the Fan on Friday. I don't want to mis-attribute it but it was one of their "insiders" and they said that not only were the Canucks the only team to offer a 2nd for Sven, but all other offers were "multiple rounds later".

Sounds like the Flames really did take an offer way above anything else on the table.

Yea, I heard that on the way home from work on Friday as well. Sounded like the implication was that the picks offered from other teams were very late i.e. potentially 5th-7th round.

I didn't hear that. But I do remember Treliving saying at the time that the 2nd rounder was WAY better than any other offer (he really emphasized it), hence why they had to buck up and trade him to a rival.

Treliving stated on deadline day that the Canucks offer was far and away the best offer they had received.

I think a 2nd is going to end up being good value and potentially great depending on what we do with that pick. I can't see Sven sticking around in the league all that much longer unless he drastically changes his game.
