Jonas Hiller didn't act like a man not starting Game one of #Flames series with #Ducks . Lots of smiles heading to familiar place.

He didn't act like "a man not starting" therefore he probably is a" man who is starting"
He is smiling about going back to the Honda Centre (a a familiar place).

Anyone catch Treliving on HC @ noon? I must say, it's one thing to respect your opponent re the Ducks, but he sure painted a dire picture. If I was a Flames player that interview wouldn't inspire much confidence.
The Ducks are a formidable opponent, but I hope the Flames don't show them too much respect and come out tentative as a result.

Yeah. Because the Flames were prone to showing "too much respect" for their opponents this season.
What Treliving says in the media is almost certainly quite different from what is said in the room. There is literally nothing to worry about here.

That's not how I read it. It sounds to me like Hiller is expecting to start game 1, but Hartley has been really cagey about his goaltending calls all season.
I expect Hiller will get the start, but I wouldn't count on it as an assured conclusion.

I've been picking against the Flames all season and it's been great that they have continually proven me wrong but for some reason I am just going to enjoy this series and not get overly concerned with the outcome. They made the playoffs for the first time in 6 years and exercised the 1st round playoff demons for only the 2nd time since 89. The next thing on the bucket list after making the playoffs and getting out of the 1st round is winning a game in the Honda Center and low and behold the next opponent happens to be the Ducks. It's kind of storybook here as while I don't know if they will win the series I really feel they will also break this curse which is something they really need to do given they are going to be a divisional opponent for some time.

Most @VanCanucks who have spoken so far today have brought up bumps and bruises. @NHLFLames took a strip off them. #ducksbeware @CKNW

All this Pond curse talk....
There is no playoff curse.
The Flames won in Anaheim April 25th, 2006.
They've only lost 2 playoff games in a row at the Pond. Hardly a curse.
Some regular season streak going back to 2004 won't matter until next October at the earliest.

Zero expectations from me for this series (other than not getting swept...) as it has been one hell of a ride up to now and anything from this point on is gravy. That said, give em hell boys!

Doesn't change the fact that they haven't won a game there since 2006.

Here's an interesting (or uninteresting) bit of information from 2006. The Ducks were completely owned by the Flames at the Saddledome that year in the regular season, scoring only one goal in two games. They won 2/4 in the playoffs as the lower seed.

Really great interview. Comes across as well spoken and humble.
Talks about his Mom telling him someday he would play in the NHL when he was playing house league hockey.
Also talks about going into see Burkie and Hartley one year ago saying he had a problem and asking for help. He says the the biggest thing was just telling some one he had a problem - he was afraid of what people would say/think.
Says in the Canucks series the thing he learned was not getting too high or too low and to forget about a loss right after it happened. He credited vets like Stajan and Jones for helping him adjust. The physicality thing comes natural and "just happened" he said.

They actually talked about hockey on Rome? Must have been too hard to get a thoroughbred owner lined up a week before Kentucky Derby.

It was the Rome show, but not Jim Rome doing the interview - he must have been away and had another guy covering for him.

One of the advantages the Flames may have on the Ducks in Round 2 is the conditioning angle. Not only are the Flames well conditioned they are also completely adjusted to playing at the higher elevation in Calgary compared to Anaheim which like Vancouver is at sea level.
Might make a difference in Game 6 in Calgary, maybe even in Games 3 and 4. It was noticeable that Vcr did not win a game in Calgary. Power of the C of Red and thinner air!

A better way to look at it would be head to head in the playoffs. Regular season Corsi doesn't matter too much at this point any more than the number of points each team earned. Montreal, for instance, outcorsi'd Ottawa despite being one of the worst teams for it in the regular season.
I haven't looked at the numbers closely, but as expected, we were out Corsi'd by Vancouver, and the Wild were demolished by the Blues in that regard. Other than game 1, Winnipeg and the Ducks was relatively even. Chicago slightly favoured over Nashville. So for the west, at least, the point is still valid. But, small sample size and all that.
Fun fact: The team that outcorsi'd its opponent in any single game is only 21-21 these playoffs. Two games were even on Corsi.

Does that still count for jungle karma if Jim doesn't do the interview. We could use some it to break the Honda curse.
