I finally watched last night's episode. I almost through my remote through my TV screen. So much for the source material.

Well I guess we can ignore books 4 and 5 entirely, this is a brand new story now. Jamie treks to Dorne with Bron, Brienne actually finds Sansa and Littlefinger, Varys and Tyrion are BFF, and Drogon decides to make an early appearance

On one hand it kinda sucks having things change so drastically from the source material, but really they had to do it. Books 4 and 5 had so much nonsense filler and hardly advanced the story at all so if they tried to follow them the series would have turned to crap. And now I'm actually excited at the thought that I get to watch the series and not really know what's going to happen

Yeah I'm completely fine with the changes underway in the series. Jamie and Bron going on a bro adventure to Dorne? I'm in. Brienne's storyline actually doing something right away? I'm in.

Would it be a spoiler in the TV thread to tell Cali Flames Fan that there is no Bran this season? I think he must have missed the news about them taking the season off.

^^ Would be very disappointing if Stoneheart wasn't in the show. I thought Michelle Fairley was seen on location during filming.

That news was discussed in the GoT thread in between season four and five, so not a spoiler.

I'm with you - excited to basically have a non-book readers experience, and not know what is going to happen. I can imagine the Dorne adventure getting lots of screen time due to the popularity of those characters. Or they get cut up really good. Either way really.

So with John already becoming Lord Commander I guess the writing is on the wall for the finale. Should be the perfect way to end it. And by then I am guessing all of the stories will have caught up with or diverged so far away from the books that season 6 will be anyones guess. Unless WoW comes out before then..

Are typing Jon as John just to troll me now?

Also worth noting, is that she was listed as being a "Hooded woman," in Episode 5.10 (presumably the finale,) on her IMDB page, for a very short amount of time. Although, that could have just been a prank someone pulled.

Well, at least Arya's storyline appears to be similar to the books... That was quite the episode last night. It is nice not knowing what is coming.

So are they just going to pretend that book 4 didn't happen? While it was a tough read, there are some story lines that I enjoyed.

I haven't even watched it yet. But I read that Sansa is the new Jeyne Poole.

So. Angry. Now.

I wonder if they are setting Sansa up to be the person that helps spring Theon from Winterfell versus how it was done in the books?

While it does annoy me when they makes changes from the book I have to admit I think the changes the TV show are doing will be more interesting than the books.

I'm going to guess that the onion knight won't be making his trip to the Manderly's. Will Sam make his trip to the Citadel?

So I downloaded the first 4 episodes for a bing watch and am now 4 for 4 with copywrite infringement letters.... I feel like HBO might have been behind the pre-release.

I agree I think these changes will be more interesting. Bringing the Sansa and Ramsay story lines together was a good decision. An otherwise usually boring character in the books is a very popular one in the show, pairing her up with that cruel jerk will help to make his twisted ideas seem even more evil. Joffrey 2.0.

I didn't think they would "kill" off Snow this season but it appears to be trending that way. I hope they don't do to much more set up on the Lord of Light so show watchers aren't so keen to the fact he could just be resurrected.

"The North remembers." Was probably my favourite part of the episode.

Why? GRRM did nothing with Sansa in the books, she was a useless character just like Briene. Now they both actually have something interesting to do relevant to the plot. Watching Sansa hang around the Eyrie or Brienne aimlessly wandering the countryside for an entire season would have really sucked

They're keeping the interesting character arcs pretty much the same (Arya, Jon, Tyrion, Cersei) while giving some of the most popular actors of the show a reason to still be there. Aside from Sansa and Brienne, how much better will it be to see Jaime and Bron quest to Dorne instead of twiddling their thumbs in Kings Landing?

I think Sam's trip is still in play, the fact that the scene in the mess hall shows the empty chair next to Jon for Maester Aemon and then Jon asking Sam about him alludes to that happening pretty soon.

I admit the chapters weren't awesome in the books. Who knows where GRRM will take the Sansa story.

However my concern with what they did with the Show is I've seen Sansa be abused before by a sadist. Is here only purpose to play victim to the show's abusive sadists?

Can Sansa be nothing more than the plaything for Joffrey or Ramsey?

I don't think she'll be Ramsey's plaything at all. The whole point of her conversation with Littlefinger was that it's her choice and it's time for her to stand up for herself. We've already seen her start to become a little more cunning and strategic, I think she becomes even stronger now knowing how much the Boltons need her name and she becomes the one to manipulate Ramsey, even if it's only subtly
