Is this seriously a thing? When you are playing in a hockey game you try to score goals.
The only thing that can be done to prevent running up the score is by the coach. If the Flames were up by 5 with 2 minutes left and Hartley put out the first line on the PP then there would be something to talk about.
Do you think the Canucks would have shown mercy, do you think the Ducks will. No way.
Flames finished with an ! mark they sent a message they aren't going to be easy they mean business.
Besides they deserve to enjoy their playoff moments.
After seeing this play my old man told me a story of Al Iafrate somehow having a breakaway on an empty net in the final seconds. He took a slapshot in the corner and later said empty net goals are for pus*ys!!!

Anyone remember this?

Classless Habs scoring an EN with less than a second left in the game. Just classless :P
For the record, I didn't have a huge problem with the Ferland goal, but there's a big difference from the Habs EN goal to the Ferland goal.
Habs were shooting it out of their zone with only a one goal lead. That clearance relieved the final pressure. Ferland chased the puck down with a two goal lead. When the puck cleared the zone, it was game over.
Ferland has every right to do what he did, but there is a sportsmanship code and he was on the edge of it when he went after that puck the way he did at that part of the game(two goal lead, less than six seconds left).
I understand the reason the thread was created. Reverse the situation and a guy like Burrows throws a little more salt on the Flames wound. Would we be up in arms? No, but it's just a little something extra that wasn't entirely necessary.
Had the shoe been on the other foot, I would have assumed the opposing team would score on the Flames and saw nothing wrong with it. There is ZERO to be angry about from the Canuck's perspective with the exception of having a breakdown (a few actually) leading to 2 empty net goals.
What would have been bad is if Ferland started celebrating like a rookie Oiler pretending it was the Game 7 overtime cup clinching goal. He didn't do that. There is no story here.
Game 2, Vancouver was up 3-1 and they scored an EN to seal the win.

Wasnt there some Euro in SJ that did that to us in 2004? Koralyuk or something.

Cmon...guys there were 3 seconds left. Not enough time for the puck to get to the other end of the ice. The game was over, and the goal wasn't ensuring a win. There was definitely an element of insult here. So we shouldn't be debating whether or not this was necessary for the win, but if Ferland was justified in the insult.
Quite frankly, Bieksa, a vet, calling out a rookie the way he did in the media was uncalled for. Personally, I would have preferred it if Ferland had been the bigger person, but I completely understand why he did what he did.
Also please remove scoreboards from kids sports...

What about the other night when Ferland was being pounded on while he still had his gloves and stick in his hand? Sportsmanship Code? What were the Flames supposed to do in the dying seconds stand around and give Vancouver more time to figure things out? He chased the puck down and scored; He would have done the same thing if Vancouver still had someone in net and we were up 2+ goals. He earned it and I wouldn't be surprised if Hartley and the rest of the team was rooting for him to score that goal. The guy has turned his life around and he is feeling good about being calgary Flame! This was a awesome explanation mark for him, the team as well as the fans!
