While it answered some organizational questions it also left a lot unsaid IMO.
I'm guessing the new GM has yet to determine if/what role people such as McTavish & Scott Howeson might be involved moving forward.

In fairness he just got hired, he doesnt know anyone or anything yet.
They promised him autonomy and likely several dumptrucks full of cash, now he has to get to work.
I find it deliciously ironic that when this all went down MacT is in Europe scouting much like Kruger was.

They were not that bad. They stunk the year they got him (which is how they got him obviously), but they were a middle of the pack team the three years before that.

This organization has no stones, how do you give one guy the role that another guy already has? Is Howson still around?

Well. You have to admire McDavid. He's made an impact on the Oilers before he has even put on their jersey.

Why have only 1 GM when you can have 2?

My personal belief is the Flames have unintentionally forced the Oiler org to make some changes. Calgary's rapid turn around & success has magnified the shame that is the Edmonton Oilers.

Kevin Lowe is the Eddie Sherman of the NHL. I wonder if he wears his fatigues around the team office.

I'm sorry, but this talk of McDavid getting the oilers to do this is bunk. Nicholson was hired to review the hockey operations this season. If he's going to make changes, it's going to be at the end of the season. Like right about now.

McDavid is the definition of the word 'overhyped'. How many cups has the last 'next great thing' won in Pittsburg? 1 and they are about to be bounced in the first round.
|
i'll bet Oiler fans said the exact same thing about Johnny Gaudreau and Sam Bennett too...
hasn't worked out too badly for us so far, so its equally possible that McDavid also lives up to his hype...

You're probably bang on with this assessment. It's hard to plead for patience in year 8 or 9 when the team down the block is miles ahead in year 2 of their rebuild.

Are Lowe and MacTavish humanoid termites? Why can't the Oilers rid themselves of these buffoons? I just don't understand...

I just got home and heard about Chiarelli. So, what does it mean for KLown and McT? Are they getting fired or are they staying? If they stay, I don't think things change because he'll be like Steve Tambellini before....KLown's puppet.

Except none of them knew who Johnny Gaudreau was and they said many many times that Draistaidl was a better player (than Bennett, even passed over Bennett in favor of Leon). Neither of them was really 'overhyped' to the extent McDavid is. Bennett has pretty much always been overhshadowed by the McDavid hype from playing on his line for so long. McDavid is just flashy, that doesn't always transmit to the NHL game and sometimes it does. One thing I'll say about McDavid though is he always wants to win, just like bennett. That is one of the biggest intagibles these days as the skill level between players isn't the same as it used to be (even from 2001-now)

It's difficult not to admire the work the Flames org has done in brief short of time. Feaster while often maligned in Calgary, did a tremendous amount of good along with Weisbrod identifying junior talent and hiring a coach bringing a almost unprecedented quick return not only to respectability but success to the Flames.

I don't think anyone is questioning McDavid....fact is these days one player, especially a forward in this stricter than ever cap system does not make a winner.
Tons of top scorers this season either missed the playoffs or snuck in on the last couple days...Art Ross winner in Dallas
