Well, it's now sans Lowe and MacTavish.

Plus he's being gifted a generational hockey player come June.

I love how even Nicholson calls him MacT. Very professional.

Asked if winning the lottery had any effect on making the changes, "part of the process...been part of a plan".

Difference is Hall, Yakupov and Hopkins are not generational elite talent....

Don't recall those player ever discussed in those terms.

I hope that the culture of losing is still ingrained in the players, regardless of the management.

At least the streak of the Oilers hiring the first guy who walks in the door continues.

Bad news for us good news for Oilers and their fans. Chiarelli will make a big difference in the organization. There are still some big holes to fill and things to take care of but with this and McDavid on the way the future is unfortunately finally looking better for the Oilers. I still don't see them making the playoffs next year but they aren't going to be the dumpster fire they were this year and many years before that.

1 cup, 2 finals and 10 years of playoffs >>>>>>>>> 10 years of no playoffs

Let's not pretend Crosby in Pittsburgh hasn't been fantastic for that franchise

Very likely McDavid finishes his OHL career never winning a championship or even a conference championship. He's extremely good but he's not going to single handedly raise a team from garbage to great.

To be fair, Erie was very much the Oilers of the OHL before McDavid.

He may not win them a championship, but he's done a lot for that team.

1 player doesn't win you 5 cups anymore like it did in the 80s. You need at least 2 lines of players who would have been considered 'generational' in the 80s plus good depth. I highly doubt Gretzky could even keep up to the pace of the league now or even earn a spot on a team (other than the oilers) if he played today.

Who is this turtle headed fellow on Oilers TV?
Not Bob Stauffer, he looks like a hedgehog.

I thought Katz only hired ex-players. I wonder if he thought he was hiring Dino Ciccerelli.

Only listened to the conference online, but to me the presentation seemed awkward.
While it answered some organizational questions it also left a lot unsaid IMO.
I'm guessing the new GM has yet to determine if/what role people such as McTavish & Scott Howeson might be involved moving forward.
