You adjust, but you can't make the same types of passes you are used to, and you have to pass harder.

NHL or not, if you have to change your game, you are changing your game.

I don't think you read the first part of his post.

Or any of it at all.

Just cause I don't think we make it past the Ducks anyways... what I see here isn't just a win/lose the next game or series comment. I what I see is a young leader who wants to put the onus on his shoulders to win a clutch game. Great for a rebuilding team to see a budding leader.

Even this is overblown IMO. I appreciate the sentiment of Backlund's leadership, but I just don't think this is anything special one way or the other.

Do we know what the question was? "So, do you think you can finish it at home?" "Yes" ....GUARANTEE!!!!!

Just that chirping Backlund in an inflammatory way for only having one assist, after his best game of the playoffs, after a tough loss, is what people are reacting to.
Then react with some actual discussion about why you think I'm wrong, like you and others did. I have no issue with that and expected it, that's what a message board is for. The stupid off-topic comments about the Sabres and how bad they are add nothing to a conversation and are clearly only made to try and get me mad. I've been an active member of this board for over a decade and am a dedicated Flames fan, hardly some drive-by troll looking for a rise out of people. I'm not sure why some members here feel it's necessary or appropriate to attack my favorite team in discussions not even related to them.

I read the whole post. So they play on ####ty ice more often. Great.

Good to know all it takes to beat the Flames is making the ice a bit choppy.

He hit it on the head in his reply though. Blame our inability to adjust. Shoot the puck more instead of trying fancy low probability passes. Ice is not the problem.

Re: Backlund's 'guarantee', to me this is no different than when Johnny was asked a few months back if the Flames were going to make the playoffs. His response was immediately "for SURE". Which was awesome and got a great cheer from the dome (it was the on ice interview after the game).

Though, it wouldn't surprise me to see the media in Vancouver trying to use this to make the Flames look bad somehow.

Considering that's how this thread started it shouldn't be surprising in the least.

I think you're overestimating this Flames team. Top 5 teams can play many different styles. 6-16 level teams typically play one style well.

It's apparent Calgary is successful because of a particular style. We have not seen much success playing other styles and lose or squeak it out when forced to play other styles.

Ice quality (or at least, a minimum level of ice quality) fits pretty significantly into how we play. I would be willing to bet the vast majority of Calgary's goals when playing on ####ty ice are point shots.

Well then we're ####ed cause if we win, we play Anaheim next.

It's not the other teams responsibility to have the ice at a level that fits our gameplan. It's their responsibility to have it up to NHL standards. That is all.

To me this suggests confidence, and with the crowd going ape on Saturday they are in good shape if they hit the ice expecting to win.

Its when a team comes out afraid to lose is when things get away from them

I think its great they see it as an advantage, and one that's tough to overcome for the opposition. Makes them more likely to ride that red crest of fury then turn them quiet by nervous play.

But we're already doing so well!

We keep moving the goal posts for what this team can accomplish!

whatever.

He and the team should feel that way but more importantly back that sentiment (stated outside the dressing room or not) up on the ice saturday night.

I think the playoffs against any other team would just be gravy.

But they have to beat Vancouver.
