I expect the new regime in Edmonton to move some of their current players to address their holes on D. I am really curious to see the first reactions in Edmonton if Hall or Eberle get traded (I can't see them trading RNH) for some D. A lot of fans see Hall and Eberle as untouchable, so it could create quite a stir
Can someone list for me all the bad moves MacTavish has made as GM? I mean Nikita Nikitin is obvious, but other than that, I can't really fault much of it. He paid Boyd Gordon too much but there was competition that offseason for his services. Andrew Ference looked like a pretty good move when it was made. I guess you could say they messed up by alienating Jeff Petry.
I mean have you watched Luca Sbisa in this series? The other guys' GM just gave him a 10 million dollar contract. I can't think of anything MacTavish has done that's come close.

Eakins is big enough to cover all bases, don't you think?

9 AM is the internal conference call. A press conference or press release may happen later today. I'm sure the outcome of the call will be over the media soon.

Drafting & Player Development are the areas the Oilers GM needs to improve within his organization
I would bet, Chiarelli will focus on drafting and player development right away....

- $20 mil for Pouliot
- $9 mil for Purcell
- Failure to address terrible defence and goaltending
- Lack of ability to make any move that realistically improves their team long term (other than being bad enough to be gifted good players).
- Failure to break up the new boys club and rip the entitlement from the team
- Dallas Eakins
- Firing Kruger over Skype after he was the only coach in years that actualy showed improvement
- Continually hiring underqualified ex-teammates for jobs
- A general air of undeserved, unearned entitlement with contempt for anyone saying otherwise, including fans.
- A firm finger on the local media with obvious attempts to make it seem like they were doing the right things and that people were generally happy with the team, and banning those who spoke ill of management.
- Constantly deflecting blame away from himself, even though he is in charge.
....
I can't believe I have to convince someone that MacTavish is worse than Chiarelli. If his job was to be terrible and end up with a generational player because of it, he couldn't have been better. If his job was to build a winning team, its not even remotely f***ing close.

Well keeping them both would be pretty stupid IMO. They won't (or shouldn't at least) move one of their young centers, so if they want to make a step forward, one of Hall/Eberle will be the one to ship out. I think that if they have the stones to package Eberle and the PIT 1st, they could actually get help on their blueline.
Didn't think they'd actually be able to sign Chiarelli ... that's disappointing. Thanks for the memories, Kevin Lowe - you'll always have a special place in my heart.

-Leaving Draisaitl to the wolves in the NHL
-Constant shuffling of assets for 1b goalies expecting a miracle
-Handling of Petry
-Handling of Smid
-Stubbornly doubling down on Justin Schultz
-Outright lying at press conferences ("7 years out of playoffs")
-Getting into shouting matches with hecklers

They dump the useless guy to open up a position for the guy who is a liability. Even when the Oilers appear to be doing a few things right, they still do a few other things wrong.
