If he wins it, I think he becomes the first Czech player to ever win the award.

Would be awesome if Gio was nominated for Hart.

Gio's clearly not valuable to this team. They made it to the playoffs without him and have a 3-1 lead in round 1.

Dang, I posted in the Johnny Calder thread a month ago about Hudler having a Byng-worthy year...and I am never right about anything. Feels good man.

And i laughed at the mention of it in the post game show, Kypreos said something about if he had got nominated for the Byng his contract had a fine for that not a bonus.

Didn't Burke, back in his Ananheim days, threaten to fine Selanne had he won the Lady Byng, saying he didn't want a player who won the award on his team? Or possibly that was always an urban legend.

Nick Kypreos said on the panel (jokingly?) that Burke put a clause in his contract that said if he ever won the Lady Byng trophy that he would have to pay back Burke some of his salary.

I think Brodie should get some votes for this year. Might not be top 3, but at least in top 5.

(Yes I know voting does not take into account playoff games)

If you look at the start time of this thread, the Byng nominations weren't announced until almost 5:00pm MT yesterday. Probably the same for the Calder.

Apparently they've changed the order of their announcements and the Selke is being announced today instead of the Calder.

NHL Public Relations@PR_NHL3h3 hours ago

Three finalists for Frank J. Selke Trophy will be announced tonight on NBCSN, Sportsnet & TVA pregame programming (6:30-7:00 ET) #NHLAwards

I'd like the Selke to go to a real defensive specialist, not, as often happens, to a "very good offensive guy who's pretty good at defence too". Like a Carbonneau. recognize the sacrifice of offensive stats.

Or maybe those guys aren't around any more.

Those are 3 pretty good candidates. Not sure who should win, they're all solid.
