That was the most Flames-esque win of the series so far in that it looked a bit more like the routine regular season win in how they approached it, albeit rare that they scored 3 in the first and 0 in the third. Just thought they were methodical and kind of balanced, almost patient in their approach.
I actually didn't think the Flames were great in the first period. Seemed a step slow and gave up a quite a few grade A opportunities. They were very very good defensively the rest of the way though, outside the first few minutes of the third period.
It was very Flames in how they produced their offense, extremely opportunistic and generating high quality chances when they were able to generate offense, even if they didn't produce a ton of overall chances. Would have really liked to have seen them score on Miller. That will be a storyline going forward for certain, because that guy can be an elite-level goaltender. Hiller will need to continue playing extremely well and I think it'll take a 1-0 or 2-1 win in one of the next three games for the Calgary Flames to win their first playoff series since 2004.
The good news is that Vancouver just doesn't generate a lot of quality chances and they are looking tired. Flames look energized and continue to have an incredibly masterful team and game equation. Nice having more output from the top guys.
Brodie the best player in this series.
Ferland the most impactful player in this series and the playoffs so far.
Tonight Backlund was perhaps the best player on either team.
They may seem close but it doesn't feel close to me, in large part of the Miller factor. Also felt that it was a strange vibe tonight. Best three games of the season were Kings, Games 1 and 3 of this series. Tonight was a little more regular-feeling. Will need another top-end performance to close this thing.
Backlund was great tonight. That penalty kill by him and Monahan was huge.
Schlemko Engelland Backlund Stajan! Lots of players deserve more praise than these guys You know, the usual guys! Never the less Schlemko has been a steal! Backlund and Stajan, 2 guys I consider great third line shut down centers are doing just that. Engelland with an awful contract, coughs up the puck way too often, but the minutes this guy is getting and the toughness he adds to the team? I miss McGrattan, Engelland is the deterent out there and he is playing second pairing D minutes. Scary at times, but I am impressed!
As for the Canucks? Can someone please tell them this is the playoffs! The effort in the last two periods were awful! I think the body work the Flames have been giving them is leaving a lasting mark. Bieksa turning away not willing to make a play and take the hit from that Ferkland kid! Says the kid is irrelevant! He wasnt on that play!
Flames players keep making plays and taking the hits, the canucks not willing to do the same!
Can we please stop showing Ferlands mom! Or Eddie Lacks Dad!
Flames embarrased the Canucks tonight! I loved it!
I don't know what else to say. The Flames buried some early chances and built momentum. From that point on they shut down the neutral and defensive zones, leaving the Canucks very few opportunities. When they did get a chance Hiller was very sharp. I can't see the Canucks winning 3 straight in a series where they have only had a couple of dominant periods of play. Without getting ahead of myself, the Flames have an EXCELLENT chance of moving on to the next round.

I hate this commercial so much and if that kid plays hockey IRL then I hope he sucks so bad that he gets banned from the game.

Seriously, am I the only one who notices how they just allow a Flames player just stand in front of Lack?

And that's the back breaker. You just know it. You can feel when a series is over... It's done.

Hey, look at that, a ****** coach gets exposed by a competent one that actually knows how to match against defensively inept D-Pairings and wins games. Who would have guessed?

Yay, the Sedins are getting more minutes! Great job WD! Not like we could have used that in the first 3 games when the entire line was healthy you ****ing jackass. No point in keeping players fresh when the entire season is on the line during a playoff series. What was he keeping them fresh for? A stanley cup run? Honestly, even as an optimistic fan I figured we'd lose to the ducks, but i at least wanted to make it there. Screw this ****ing idiotic coach.

Why would they not?, they are killing us right now. They deserve all the credit they are getting, don't forget after game #2 they were talking up the canucks big time also.

I'm convinced the Flames took the Kings late-game heroics mojo through some complex Canadian voodoo ritual the first time that we played them this season. I get this weird feeling that I'm rooting for the Kings whenever I watch them play.

What a win for the Flames. Hiller with a Kiprusoff like performance.

Hopefully CGY-VAN ends before the NSH-CHI OT starts. I wanna see the CGY fans go crazy at a (possible) 3-1 series lead before that starts.

Glad Calgary is doing well and cheering for them against the Nucks but is it just me or is George Canyon the cheesiest anthem singer in the NHL. The forced country twang is painful.

Calgary 4 shots 2 goals and so it goes. Once again Flames get outplayed, outshot in a period and come up roses.
When does it end?

I think a major part of it is that they have skilled younger players who are coachable and will play the system the coach asks them to. They play a simple game and stick to it.
