I'm sure if they put Sven in, it's because they view him as being able to help the team potentially, but I also wonder if they also aren't hoping that it serves as a distraction for the Flames, get them too focused on showing up their ex- team mate rather than just focusing on playing their game.

Beartschi isn't an ex-teammate of 90% of the players on this team ... you know, since they're NHL'ers.
Burn.

That is a desperation move. The series is extremely physical, with the Canucks fearings hits in their own end. So they throw in a player that was too soft to play on the same team he's playing against? He makes Raymond look like Ferland.
I just can't see him turning his game around, but again he feels he has something to prove, so he may have an extra gear. This move can easily backfire. Calgary will just continue to play their game, they should not care about an underperforming prospect and potential career AHLer.
I know the guy demanded a trade and could never quite break into the Flames lineup full time, but let's not pretend he's a terrible hockey player. If Sven has confidence and motivation he could be another weapon for the Canucks. I'm sure Brad Treliving will be watching closely and hoping that trading within the division won't come back to bite him tonight.
I can't believe they don't have another player or prospect more NHL-ready than Baertschi. If Horvat's hurt, what they need is to move other players up in the lineup, and then plug someone in on the 4th line. Even at his best, that ain't Sven. He'll either get 3 minutes of ice or get destroyed, or both. Which is fine by me ...

if not for injury reasons, I can't see him get into their lineup to be honest. On the left side, beside Sedin they also have Kenins, who has been one of their better forwards for weeks now. Higgins has been okay too. Matthias/Vey are better options in their bottom 6. Obviously I'm no expert on the Canucks, but objectively I see no way how he makes that team without any injuries.

Based on his efforts as a Flame this year there was no pretending necessary.
He's not a terrible hockey player though. All of this sour-grapes nonsense reaks of fear (and justifiably so: as someone had already mentioned - if anyone's going to be motivated to beat the Flames it would be someone who felt he wasn't given a fair shake in Calgary) and the calls for an injury are absolutely embarassing to this community. The latter is just as bad as all the meatheads to the west of us calling on Sestito to pummel Ferland or poking fun at addiction.
