Then, only then, will they call headshots the same in the playoffs and in the regular season. It's going to happen. It's just a matter of when. So why not show some leadership and get ahead of the curve?
Not the NHL's style. They want the playoffs to be a different game with different rules. Okay, then. That's what they're going to get - this series is only going to get more ugly. And when the league spokesmen wring their hands at hand out fines at the mayhem that will eventually break out, their hypocrisy will be evident to everyone.

This.
Hope the NHL enjoys the inevitable future lawsuits that will occur once someone gets put in a coma and it's easily provable that nothing has been done to curtail this behavior.

Exactly as expected. And the Dept of Player... what's the word? Oh yeah Safety (hahahah how laughable is that moniker) shows they care not even a whit for the players.
A total joke.

Upset that there isn't at least a fine for "prior history" purposes if he does it again. What a gutless puke.

I really don't mind no suspensions. On team pushes, the other pushes back and it's damn entertaining.
If Bennett rolled around on the ground and went off the ice for a while like a good Canuck Hamhuis would have been suspended. But he wasn't hurt, he's not a puss, so no suspension required.

Burrows and Bieska I guess could go both ways, but I am with those that think Hamhuis should've got suspended. We don't need those cheap head shots around.

it was the hit to the head that should have gotten one...also, Bob gets fined for player selection...next game he puts kids out and they take runs at them
what is he supposed to do?

I like to keep things the way they are... tell our young guys to keep their eyes out for the Canucks head hunters, but let them keep taking dumb dumb penalties.
|
Yup. Like I said after game two: 'Eye for an eye" favours Vancouver, not us. We need to keep finishing checks and scoring goals. Let them keep losing their heads.

Why wouldn't the NHL at least have a hearing for Hamhuis? They can still let him off but at least it makes it look like they're taking it seriously and gives a clear warning

Keep the kids calm and focused, tell them to play the same way as game 3. If he does all that the Flames can end this in 5 and rest up.

I agree with this completely.
The last thing I want to see is the Flames change their game to try and exact revenge on the Canucks... Vancouver is already leading in PP attempts despite the fact the Flames were one of the least penalized teams in the NHL throughout the season.
Keep pounding Vancouver's D, they were scared by the end of the game yesterday. Ferland needs to just keep doing what he's doing.

The referees have lost control of this series. I don't expect we'll see many of these officials in round 2.

I hope there are at least fines handed out. There has to be something so at the very least there is a record.

That's not how it works, you roll around you don't get to play. Not being a puss is to his own detriment. Just the idea that you would say that is asinine. A head shot is a head shot.
Frankly it makes the game way less entertaining, it's hard to cheer for a game when people's lives are being shortened due to freaking incompetence by the NHL. A head shot is a head shot, the outcome obviously should be irrelevant. Whatever moron came up with that rule will damage lives for decades because not being a puss is just about the worst way to think about it. How about don't head shot a guy, no matter what, ever.

Not terribly surprising, except I thought they'd wait longer to announce to give the impression they were at least THINKING about doing something. Any word on a fine?

Not to mention that with brain injuries, sometimes the symptoms don't kick in until later. I remember hearing how Lindros would get his, then get right back up and keep playing, only to have no memory of the rest of the game afterwards. Has anyone checked on Bennett today?

Well, it's either incompetence or corruption. I think it's incompetence. The NHL is at terribly run league with no consistency with anything it does. They are financially successful in spite of themselves because hockey is awesome and people love it.

I'm pretty shocked that Hamhuis didn't get anything? Like absolutely nothing?

People keep saying this, but have they really? Didn't like the Hamhius head shot, disappointed in the league and their reaction.
But other than that, what's going on that there is a loss of control? This is playoff hockey, most of the hits have been clean, most of those that haven't have been called, and there have been some scraps started by the losing teams after the last two games, and both teams are trying to intimidate the other. What was everyone expecting? As of right now, this is exactly what a playoff series between the Nucks and Flames should look like.
I don't think there's been any loss of control what so ever, the teams are playing physical hockey, but they are focused for the most part on the game and winning, seems about right to me.
