Default Calgary's latest homicide; Sun prints odd detail

http://calgaryherald.com/news/local-...theast-calgary

A body was found beside Whitespot at an auto shop on McLeod trail just south of Southland drive. Looks to be a homicide as it appears the crime happened behind the shop and then the victim stumbled out front where witnesses found him.

Probably drug or gang related, but here's the weird thing. This Calgary Herald article has all the same details as the article in the Calgary Sun (paper edition) except at the very bottom of the Sun article they printed "The man's hands were bagged by police as evidence".

Umm that's seems like a pretty big friggen deal to me. But they just kind of threw it in the second last sentence in their article, and now I can't find it on their website to see if they've updated, and the Herald makes no mention of it.

I would guess that they don't mean that his hands were actually cut off, more that his hands were bagged from the wrist down because he may have had the murderer's DNA on his hands (either blood on his hand, or skin under his fingernails)

Maybe it's just hard to get a handle on what's being reported

Are you assuming the hands were not attached to the victim any longer? I think it probably just means bagged were placed over the hands of the victim in order to preserve possible DNA evidence, particularly if there were signs it was a fight.

Default Terminology

Probably just their terminology. We had a time we found a body in the ditch while driving home from a camping trip. We stopped and others stopped behind as we had a motorhome and boat and some thought we had a problem. Wife went down and kid was choking on blood so she did her magic to open his breathing. Other lady that stopped called 911.
They showed up and the kid was alive but barely seemed to be. One EMT looked at the other and said Let's bag him. Yike the wife says to the 2 medics he is still alive why do want to bag him. Turns out it is the oxygen breathing apparatus with the bag on the front that they were referring. Wife just about lost it with him still breathing. Unfortunately the family and us were in brief contact and e was bascially brain dead at the time and died shortly after.

Thanks guys, yeah my brain automatically went to Mexican drug lord style stuff, with guys cutting off his hands and beating him almost to death and then leaving him to stumble around til he died.

I watch too much TV and the description startled me.

Even if they specifically mentioned Ziploc bags, they would have to mention whether they were left zipped or unzipped. I'm not sure the police give out that type of information

Arrest has been made, kids not too bright it seems, arrested for 5 weapons charges and then the murder later.

I think I might have stopped playing with guns had I just shot someone.
