Riot in Edmonton!! KLowe and McT planning the NHL Draft Lottery crown for the 4th time in 5 years. What a dynasty!!
Wow, what a waste of freaking afternoon watching that stupid Draft Lottery. I feel for the kid.. he was happy and giddy earlier when George was interviewing him, Hanifin and Strome. They even showed him with his parents and his brother very happy. Then after the announcement that poor kid looks like he just his favorite dog.

1) There's no way that Katz gets rid of Lowe and Mac-t now for the next two years. Why do you think that Mac-T labeled next year as a development year, and the year after they move to a new building. Katz is going to give these two every opportunity to be able to stand in front of the press and say they told them so. If the Oilers had dropped back the chances of Lowe and Mac-T being around next year would be low.
2) Every GM in the NHL knows that Mac-T is going to be looking desperately for a top defenseman and a top goaltender, and the prices are going to go up. Especially since those type of players don't grow on trees. The Oilers are going to be in a sellers market.
3) The Oilers are already a cap team and in two years they're going to have to break up that core. Its just the way it is.
Relax fellas, that team with or without McDavid has no leadership, no heart, no two way game, no roster depth and no future.

Everything you say is true, but for me it's about McDavid. His career will suffer in EDM and that is a dog on shame for all hockey fans.

The one year the NHL absolutely should have rigged the lottery. Good god what a PR disaster for the league

The only way to fix the system is to not let teams draft top 5 three years in a row. Period. If you draft top 5 two years in a row the next year the best pick that you can get is 16.
Or you hold a tournament for the top pick over the last 10 games of the year.

I wonder if that plays into anything with my McDavid's feeling towards the Oilers. The otters have done a lot for him and he's the biggest reason they're still alive. Im sure he has a good relationship with the whole ownership team there and probably isn't the biggest fan of Katz tactics

This is how it's supposed to work. The Oilers suck, but they did not tank.
The idea is to not reward teams for tanking, and that's what just happened.
Sucks that it went to Edmonton, but mission accomplished.

Not team needs three 1st overall picks to find success, never mind four.
By the time the third comes around, something is wrong with the system.

Gotta feel bad for Arizona. Tonight IMO was the beginning of the end for that franchise. They needed McDavid. If they don't draft Auston Matthews next year they are 100% done.

but with the Oilers drafting 7th and 3rd in the last two years, they'd still be able to draft McDavid.

Yep I believe you have to have more incentive to be better over just trying to fall into talent over and over like the Oilers. The draft should be about the players but for over half a decade now it's been about the Oilers which is bad for hockey and the young players.

I realize that. Not because this outcome specifically but in general it does need some more tweaking.

Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett and Jankowski will retire with more rings than the four horsemen of suck.

With the next one in the fold, maybe this becomes an attractive place for the Alberta boy Babcock?
If i'm Lowe and MacT, I give Babcock whatever he wants and complete autonomy to run the show, and just put up my feet, sit back, and take all the credit.

My biggest fear now is that McDavid pulls a lindros, then to appease him the Oilers fire Lowe and Mctavish.
As long as Lowe and Mctavish are there they won't be an elite team. Best case scenario is McDavid evolves into a 1 dimensional star forward, they continue to blame goaltending rather than fix the defense and trade eberle for Phaneufs to address their number one defense problems.
