l think it's a real shame, and I would not feel bad if further disciplinary action was taken.

I can just see how this fan base would react if that ever happened to Johnny.

If Subban makes it out of this series without a cast, I'll be surprised

I agree. I thought it was pretty blatant.

Ottawa fans should be pissed off if he doesn't play or his play is greatly diminished because of this.

I honestly have no idea why you guys are defending Subban and attacking Stone. Subban blatantly two-handed Stone in the wrist with his stick and the puck was nowhere to be found in the vicinity. Just because the dude had the toughness to come back and play shouldn't be a mark against him. When a guy loses a mouth full of teeth you don't call him a wimp or a faker because he comes back to play.

Ha, Montreal fans now calling out opposition players as divers, and talking about "threats" supposedly made on the ice. Is it opposite day?
Does this mean they will cheer icings against their team and not boo them?
Stay home instead of rioting?

Without a doubt Subban will be sleeping with the fishes by Friday.

Part of what makes Subban electrifying is that he's a dirty player that's immensely skilled.

This time it should've burned him and his team. But he gets off scot-free, and Stone is probably going to be at 50% for the rest of the series (all while taking "accidental" slashes from the entire Habs team).

Can't wait for this game tomorrow though. Gonna be insane.

Well while I was wrong about him coming back...... I remember Lombardi coming back after the Hatcher hit to finish the game. Obviously Lombardi was not ok.

Micro-fracture isn't an actual diagnosis, but more a radiological feature that aids the diagnosis. This is most likely a bone contusion, AKA "bone bruise", which often occurs with micro fracturing:

Quote:
Bone contusions represent microfractures with haemorrhage and can progress to osteochondritis dissecans 2. They typically appear within 48 hours of injury and can persist for up to six months 3.
http://radiopaedia.org/articles/bone-contusion

Either way, there is a lot of excusing Subban's actions because Stone came back and didn't appear to have any problems with the wrist. I call that adrenaline and not wanting to come out of a playoff game. He was clearly injured by the play and Subban is very lucky he didn't get a suspension.

Violent stick fouls need to die a quick death. I'm glad that Subban was thrown out of the game. The Canadiens still won anyway, but at least that penalty will send the message to cut down on cheap plays going forward.

I like Subban but what he did was stupid and if he 2 handed Johnny like that I'd be livid. I don't agree with the way the NHL hands out discipline. Punishment needs to be based more on the intent of an action and not the injuries/or lack there of. Slashing a player on the wrist away from the puck isn't a hockey play and even if it happens dozens of times a game I don't think it belongs in the sport.

But some will argue it was a normal hockey play (since it happens a dozen times). Go back to the HABS-OTT thread when it happened.

I love how when a guy rolls around on the ice in pain they assume he's faking.

I thought it was a bad and stupid slash and deserved 5 and a game. I didn't think there was intent to injure - 9 times out of 10 that's on the glove or elbow pad. Slashes like that do happen quite often (just usually they are more subtle and/or on skating opponents).

So I'm fine with the punishment and not condoning the slash at all. I think Ottawa should have refrained from commenting or been vague. If Subban gets slashed next game the league will now look at a fine for the coach.

I don't understand this standard.

Slashing a guy on the glove is meant to hurt him.

It may not cause 'an injury' but it's designed to hurt.

Subban slashed him with the intent of hurting him and making him less effective. Whether he was fantasizing about a microfracture is irrelevant, as is whether it happens routinely or not.

It was a two-handed slash away from the play that cause a significant injury. 5+ a game misconduct and in Flash Walken's NHL, a 2 game suspension.

Completely unnecessary and avoidable altercation that is going to substantially harm Ottawa's chances moving forward.

The league look like cowards when they don't take the repercussions of the injury as seriously as the suspension.

DOn't want to put your team at a disadvantage for the rest of the game? Don't go around slashing guys on the wrists.

I would expect the next game to be pretty dirty between these two teams the nhl can't turn around and suspend an Ottawa player for a visious slash now, should make for a fun game to watch

I'm not defending Subban. It was an ugly slash, and worthy of missing the rest of that playoff game, which is exactly how the refs handled it.

It is not worthy of a suspension, like Ottawa's coach suggested. I also do not believe Stone has a broken wrist, like Ottawa is suggesting. I think they played it up in an attempt to get Montreal's best player not named Carey Price suspended for a game or two, and potentially place more of the ref's attention on Subban when he is playing. This 'micro-fracture' claim just reeks of posturing.

Pretty sure they announced Stone's specific injury after the league had already stated Subban was not receiving supplemental discipline. Therefore, it's impossible for them to be releasing that information in an attempt to get Subban suspended.

Some of you are so dramatic. Nobody is vindicating Subban here. We all know it was a bad slash. The issue is that you never see five and a game for that slash ever until last night regardless of the technicalities of the rule book. Warrener (he would know more than any of us what you can get away with) on 960 this morning said that was something he did almost ever game and the punishment was never that severe.

I hate the Habs more than any team in the East save for maybe the Leafs so it's not like I actually want them to succeed in the playoffs but I do believe the NHL is horribly inconsistent in how different officials call the games and it bugs the heck out of me. If they are going to give Subban 5 and a game for a two hander there better be 5 and a game for two handers going forward and I have my doubts we are going to see that.
