I guess the real debate implied is - is this real or fake?

In that case, the discussion should be tabled until tomorrow night, when we see if Stone plays or not. That should provide the answer.

NHL history is littered with guys who tried to play through significant injuries. Our own first line centre might well be one of them.

Stone trying to play through would not, in any way, shape or form, indicate that this is "fake".

Actually it's harder than I thought, a lot of the results are related to microfracture surgery.

Going relatively unnoticed is the vicious butt-end Eller used on Zabinajad.

That was as dirty/dirtier than the slash and is lucky it didn't result in serious injury.

Suspension worthy.

Also a winner in all that chaos is the linesman that overruled the ref (or talked him out of it) to retract the high stick call on Subban because he magically saw Pageau getting hit by the puck and not the stick.

Stone's injury has nothing to do with a stress fracture. This is not a chronic injury related to a repetitive stress or insufficiency. This an acute injury. As in - he was acutely chopped with a stick.

These are the two worst teams this could happen to. Remember yesterday’s playoff preview? My prediction for this series was “Something ridiculously controversial will happen in this series, and two hypersensitive fan bases are going to lose their freaking minds over it.” Yeah, that didn’t take long.

There’s no nice way to put this: There may not be a combination of teams in the league that are any worse suited to handle this kind of situation. Montreal fans and media are obsessed with the team’s history and status, yet weirdly predisposed to view everything through the lens of shadowy conspiracy; Senators fans and media are almost cripplingly insecure about their place in the hockey world and prone to overreact to even the tiniest controversies. That’s an awfully bad pairing for this sort of thing, and if you’re not directly rooting for one of the teams involved in this series, you may want to just check out now. It’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
