As long as we're whining about play calling (as is Flames fan tradition), the way Derek Wills calls the goals is really starting to grind my gears. There's always this stretched out element to it before he even confirms the goal, and because the fans have been cheering for a solid second or two, you kind-of-but-not-really already know someone scored. Small thing, but I think it really sucks out the energy and spontaneity out of the goal.

I hate that he tries to make it a calling card or something. Just call a goal as soon as it happens, dammit.

He's a joke period. During commercials i switched over to CHI-NSH. What a treat Gord Miller is to listen to.

BTW. Anyone have video of Jones saying huge 2 points?

I guess some of you must live in the States if you were watching NBC because both east and west NBC feeds on Shaw had typical prime time programming on. No hockey. Maybe for weekend games we'll get NBC, but most of us in Canada have to suffer through Hughson.

Canuck fans are unhappy with the commentary because their hometown announcer said positive things about the Flames. But the Flames' play warranted positive commentary.

Flames fans are unhappy with the commentary because Hughson sounded like Tigger when making positive comments about the Canucks, and then sounded like Eeyore when making positive comments about the Flames.

the nuckleheads are already pining for Ben Svaertschi! Yes please insert him in the lineup so Ferland can tune him a couple times

Those of you complaining about Hughson should try the punjabi feed. They actually sound really good, and if they are Canuck homers, you'd have no idea as long as you don't speak punjabi.

I said the same thing early on.

"Gaudreau to the net [cheers] ..... and he scores [in almost a less excited tone than the setup]"

Hughson didn't bother as much as his bias is expected. And as said above, him being sad is one o the best things about beating the Nucks.

But I did have a problem with the CBC broadcast overall. Every replay was a Canucks play, or talking about a Canuck player and/or family member. No features about Flames players. No discussion about their season or injury situation or anything. Even near the end of the game it was "Wow, here's some of that end to end action" (a single Canucks chance that came after a flurry of Flames chances).

It's just annoying because I'd like to hear about my team as well. They're both Canadian right?

Also, anyone else think that GM place was pretty quiet most of the game as far as pumping up their team? Maybe 2 or 3 half-hearted "Go Canucks Go" (which sounds more like Go Flames Go. There's two syllables Nucks fans, use a different cheer).

Either way my takes on the game:

Bennett: Very impressed. Playing like he doesn't know any better than to be a force. No tentativeness at all going to the hard areas. Will be a boost over Raymond for sure.

Ferland: Also super impressed by Ferland. The penalty was dumb, if he had just kept his gloves and gave a couple exstra stick shots, nothing would have came of it. Rookie mistake and he made up for it with hard nosed play and was rewarded with good icetime.

Overall, I thought while the Canucks carried the play for the first half, the Flames had the better scoring chances when they did come. And then the 2nd half was pretty even with a lean towards the Flames.

Great game by Hiller, kept us in it and gave the team the opportunity to come back. Thank you, Jonas.

It's a long series. With the game being in Vancouver I didn't mind them talking about Canuck players and family members.

It should switch to Flames-centric in Game 3 in the dome.

What a great game to be at. I was in 316 row 1, so all three goals were scored in the opposite end from me. I've been to about 10 games, including 3 playoff games, at Rogers Arena and that was easily the loudest I've ever heard the fans. They needlessly cheered every hit, needlsy chanted Lack's name after every save, needlessly booed every offside and penalty, and had a Hiiiillllleeerrrr chant going most of the game. That said, after both of Calgary's goals you could hear a pin drop in the arena. After the 2nd goal 1/4 of the arena was out the door before the puck was dropped with 30 seconds left.

There were far fewer Flames fans at the arena than I thought there would be. Hopefully a few more make it to game two. With the Jump On going ahead I look forward to the red invasion (Red Wedding?) on Friday. There are so many fake jerseys in Vancouver. It goes with all the fake fans, but I'd guess over half of the jerseys I saw were knock offs.

I called the game 1 score exactly to my receptionist. I'm going with a 1-0 Calgary win tomorrow.

Thanks for the noise though - it didn't go un-noticed how much noise Flames fans were making at the game.

Horvat's goal may have sucked at the time but Russell scoring and seeing all of the Canucks fans around me completely gutted was all the help I need.

I think you can find them online.....

...sorry. You pretty much only have to put a .ca behind all three of those and you are covered.

If you look at just the goals, the Canucks were much more lucky. Theirs went in on a double deflection off two different players' skates, while ours was a nice shot from the slot and a well screened shot from the point.

We did have a lot of scrambles in front of Hiller that didn't turn into anything though. Calgary was definitely more opportunistic, but I wouldn't say lucky.

Michael Ferland

Wow, what a game.

So much of this game rests on the work he did. After that penalty Bob could have sat him, I am sure many coaches would have sat him. Nope, he is back out there playing like he hates his body.

This kid is a fighter.

Had to rely on entities like Kid's Sport to even play the game growing up. He also had to deal with drinking and the poor desicions that happen when you drink.

This is the type of player that wins you championships. The type of player that knows adversity and isn't scared of it.

Well Done Michael Ferland.

All the pressure now on Vancouver to get the split. Lack didn't play bad at all but another loss and you wonder if Miller starts game 3.

Ferland is easily becoming a favorite of mine, just like Bouma. These two will be key bottom 6ers for us in the future.

Watched the highlights on TSN this morning and they had the U.S. feed with Chris Cuthbert.

It was glorious.
