I don't think it's a dive. You take a slash on bone like that it's going to hurt regardless of consequence. Also the penalty should have nothing to do with result. It was either intent to injure or it wasn't.
I think it was a little harsh to go major and a game for something where he was likely just trying to slash the gloves and got bone. So a minor should have been sufficient.

If Gaudreau got slashed? I think that has happened.
If Gaudreau got slashed and severely embellished injury? I think most would take the 5... and also hope that someone important sat him down and told him we don't do that here.
You're assuming he embellished injury. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a photo after the game that shows otherwise. Although it is the playoffs and they'll probably stay tight lipped
I'm sure the refs reviewed the high-sticking situation from the first period at the intermission...I think that, the instant tantrum and appearance of injury all played a big part.
It also wasn't anything resembling a hockey play...cross checks to the back in front of the net are common...lumberjack swings like that aren't (not saying he swung as hard as he could, but it was more than your typical chop)

Would love to see that slash again. The first two times I saw it Subban choked up on his stick, hacked and hit higher than Stones glove. I hardly think Stone embelleshed as much as y'all are alluding to. I know I'd go down in a heep.
