Default V for Vendetta

Just FYI, it was released today on DVD.

One of my favourite movies ever, I encourage anyone and everyone to see it if they haven't.

It was a good movie, a little too talky talky at times but still good. Had a birthday a couple days ago and one of my gifts was Equilibrium with Christian Bale. Never heard of it, I don't think so I was suprised, but it was very good. If V for Vendetta was one of your favourites, you should check that out Nehkara.

I saw this one in the theatre and I wasn't too impressed. Didn't hate it but surely didn't love it. I guess I just expected more...

As for Equilibrium, that was a great movie. Christian Bale is underrated.

Sure, I'm not surprised that you guys didn't like V. I'm sure there are plenty of people who didn't like it. To each their own.

I will check out Equilibrium though, sounds interesting. Thanks!

I really didn't know what to make of it. I watched the first 15 minutes and was underwhelmed.. but you get sucked in pretty quickly. Christian Bale is good, agreed.

Equilibrium was awesome. Kinda wondered why it wasn't given a bigger budget and a place in the theaters. Gunkata!!!

V was just mediocre for me. Not a bad movie, but it was just a bit over the top for me -- like it was trying too hard. That's the best way I can describe it.

I loved V for Vendetta. Never read the comic or anything, but found it to be both visually stunning and a pretty good social commentary. Very Orwellian in feel.

AND DAMN! Does Hugo Weaving know how to pick a role in a movie or what?

(in case you don't know - Hugo Weaving is V, Elrond from LOTR, and Agent Smith from the Matrix series)

Don't know about the budget, but I believe it had the bad luck of coming out the same weekend as the Matrix... It was forgotten in all the hype.

As for V... it as ok, all the talking got to me a bit. Still an enjoyable movie though, something that should be watched.

He was very good in that role, but he wasn't the first guy to do it. I don't know who it was know I forget. But Hugo came in mid-filming to take over the role. Alot of the stuff on film wasn't Hugo in the mask, just him doing voice over.

i really enjoyed the comic...but missed it at the theater...now that its out on DVD, I'll definitely pick it up (maybe it'll finally wash out the bad taste of Matrix Revolutions)

I could be wrong, but with Equailbrium, didn't they blow their budget filming the movie so they couldn't get it into theators, and it came straight to DVD.

BTW MMF, Equialibrium has been mentioned in a few of your threads. Just wanted to point that out.

V: Voilą! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.
[carves V into wall]
V: The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.
[giggles]
V: Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.
Evey Hammond: Are you like a crazy person?
V: I'm quite sure they will say so.

How can you not like a movie that has an exchange like this?

Picked up the combo of the Special Edition V for Vendetta with Constantinte for $28... seemed like a good deal considering that the Special Edition V for Vendetta alone was... $28.

HMV wasn't sure how that made sense either, but free movie, I guess.

Popcorn fun...not the brilliant social piece make it out to be, IMO. Same goes for Equilibrium only moreso. Terribly stupid movie, but it wasn't a bad ride.

You are entitled to your opinion and I wouldn't call it brilliant but it does a much better job of social commentary than most other movies these days... although most don't even try.

I don't know... guess it struck a chord with me.

I agree with you there.

Although, I think the comic did a better job when it comes to portraying the intended message... but the movie was great none the less.

*spoilers in white text below*

That being said, there were parts of the comic that I'm glad were left out of the movie. Such as the chancellor-computer love-thing that was going on...

I wish they had shown the character-specific ways in which each person died in. I thought it was a neat twist to show that the way he killed them was related to what they had done.

Oh don't get me wrong I liked the movie. Lots of fun and does make you think, just all of my friends were going on and on about it. I was much more impressed with Batman Begins.

V is great, because its different. Too many same-theme movies are battered around, and re-used and re-used and re-used again. You can't watch Paycheck or The Village or the romantic comedies without predicting the end, 5 minutes into the movie, or even the sequaltial sequences the movie undertakes.
