I think it will happen a lot across the sea, from what we have seen in the previews it looks like the Imp is going to hook up with Danny sooner than later bringing Varys with him. This means there will be less spots around her than there are in the book. So yea Jorah is a prime candidate.

Would make sense if it were people who looked like they were on their way out at the end of book five but which we didn't actually get confirmaiton of (Dhario, Stannis, Mance, etc.).

Interesting...my guess is Stannis.

Stannis is likely to emerge as the Night's King, he's an important character.

While Stannis as The Night King is an interesting theory, I wouldn't go so far as to call it "likely".

Isn't Stannis one of the characters who at the end of the last book the axe may of fallen on?
Memory foggy, but I thought the Bolten's were all cocky because they had him trapped in snow and they were going to run him down, and the Iron Bank was trying to warn him, but the booked implied he was done for...without confirmation.

Naa, if you read the parts the Martin has put out for the next book he is still kicking.
I think he will still be alive for some time to come...

Big change from the books with Varys apparently accompanying Tyrion on his travels to meet Daenerys. I wonder if they'll keep them together until Volanis?

Just more streamlining - they get to keep a favorite character and performer around instead of bringing back Illyrio.
I expect Varys will stick with Tyrion until they catch up with Daenerys.

I'm so lost now when trying to compare the show to the books. I know the big events yet to happen, but have no idea when they're going to happen. Are they combining books 4 and 5 straight up into one season, or are they going to leave some stuff out for next year? I'm guessing at least that Jon Snow will get a knife in the back in the finale, but no clue when or if Stoneheart will ever make an appearance

According to Michelle Fairley, who played Catelyn, Stoneheart won't be appearing in the show.

You couldn’t have missed the online furor over the lack of Lady Stoneheart in the Thrones finale. Were you surprised by that attention?
I actually haven’t seen any of that. I don’t look that stuff up. I avoid it like the plague. I was totally unaware.
There was a lot of online conversation. I heard third-hand that you were basically told that it’s not likely to ever happen. Is that accurate?
Yeah, the character’s dead. She’s dead.
Do you have a preference at all—do you think Catelyn’s arc should end where it ended, or would you be into the resurrection idea?
You respect the writers’ decision. I knew the arc, and that was it. They can’t stick to the books 100 percent. It’s impossible—they only have 10 hours per season. They have got to keep it dramatic and exciting, and extraneous stuff along the way gets lost in order to maintain the quality of brilliant show.

The timelines aren't congruent, the Battle of Winterfell hasn't happened yet in that Theon chapter from WoW.

I quite like the choice to keep the two of them together on the journey to Mereen. I wonder if they will put the presumed dead Targaryen son into the show (Aegon?)?
My book knowledge is rusty, but Littlefinger and Sansa weren't going somewhere west in the books right?
I am so overdue for a re-read.

I'm a little rusty too, but as I recall Littlefinger and Sansa stayed in the Eyrie.

Is Mance dead? In the books it is Rattleshirt but changed with magic to appear like Mance. I suppose there is no way to know for sure unless we see some casting in the future.
And while the whole Lady Stoneheart thing was supposedly cut, I can't help but notice the answers Michelle Fairley gave - "Yeah, the character’s dead. She’s dead." She doesn't say anything about not coming back. The character of Kat is dead, the arc is over. Lady Stoneheart can almost be considered a new character.

I was wondering about that too, but since they are going to go "off book" for a lot of stuff now they may have opted to just straight up kill him.
He does help Theon escape Winterfell in the books, but I guess they can leave that out and just have it happen another way.

I think they will spend this season building up John Snow as the Lord Commander. Maybe one of the ending points for his story arc will be taking off Slynt's head. Give everyone a little bit of satisfaction for that jerk betraying John's Father.
Then next season we will see Cersei devise this plan to assassinate John and it will get foiled as she is imprisoned by the Sparrows, lulling everyone into a false sense of security for John just in time to have his own men stab him in the back to end season 6.

Pet peeve, it's Jon Snow. Not John.
I'm really starting to wonder if Connington and Aegon will appear.

They should absolutely do Connington and Aegon, among a couple of other things, to extend the show and give Martin additional time to finish. :|

That's the thing though, I don't think the show creators are going to put stuff in to buy time for Martin. I'd assume that the two of them have gotten the outline of where the books are heading and the conclusion and they are free to write the show out with Martin helping wherever he can.

When they were filming this season in Croatia, there was some controversy because the church where they film the scenes outside the big Sept in King's Landing didn't want them to film a certain scene because of the nudity involved.
Presumably, that would be Cersei's walk from the Sept to the castle at the end of the last book.
If that scene is going to appear this season, they'll basically be caught up to the books, at least for that storyline.
