I'm also all for humor being open range and nothing off limits, but lets be serious, nobody was really cracking up over calling the sedins "girls".
Everything has some humor in it and with the Canucks I feel like we can do so much better so easily.

Even if you don't think it's sexist, it's just a lamest, laziest, and stupidest type of humor. They're the kind of jokes I'd expect a 12 year old to have grown out of enjoying.

If we were saying something like "you drive like a girl" then okay, I guess you can be offended because you're just assuming all girls are bad drivers even though that's not true. In this situation however, NO GIRL IS ABLE TO PLAY HOCKEY AT AN NHL LEVEL.
If girls played hockey better than men I assure you, no one in a Flames jersey would be calling the Sedins "girls".
You realize the womens olympic team trains agaisnt 15 year old boys right?

So how many women do you know who have gotten shots on NHL training camp rosters? Or even NCAA camp rosters?
I can think of one off the top of my head, Manon Reaume.
So until a few women actually get the shot to play against/with actual NHL players, I'll withhold judgement that there are no women anywhere who can play NHL level hockey.
Pretty sure there's a healthy list of NHL 3rd and 4th liners who wouldn't make it on Canada's women's Olympic team, actually.
But seriously, I really, really need men to stop ManSplaining why women aren't allowed to be offended by stuff like this. If you're white, you wouldn't tell a black person not to be offended by something--stop doing it to women. Full stop. It's not your place to determine what is and isn't offensive to a group of which you are not part.

I'm sorry but this is laughable. I could give you a list of NHL 3rd and 4th line players that would make the Canadian Womens Olympic...It would include every single player that iced even a second of NHL time this season.

I don't know about all that. The NHL is about winning and money. If there are women who can play in the NHL, they'd probably be on a team. Hayley Wickenheiser is the greatest women's hockey player ever, and she was never close to cracking an NHL lineup.
The funny thing is that the "Sedin sisters" is suggesting the Sedins play soft. Soft like girls. They always kind of have been soft, I think, but it's got nothing to do with being "like girls".
If they played as hard and with as much determination as the women on the Canadian national team, the Canucks would probably have at least one Stanley Cup by now.

The Canadian National Women's team frequently plays against men - Midget AAA. I don't think they did very well this year either (don't quote me on that since I can't find the standings off hand).

That's about the competitive level they're at.

it's sexist, it's stupid, I personal don't use phrases like that because I'm an adult now and know better, and I'll tell my kids not to.
Justify and use whatever wording you want but when I hear people say things like that I just assume they're idiots and move on.

I think that's the bigger problem here: it's not funny.
Sometimes a good joke comes at a cost. If the cost disparages someone or some group, then the joke must be accordingly funny. A joke that's more offensive than funny is just an offensive statement.
The Sedin Sisters isn't funny. If it was funny, then we could have a good debate about whether it's funny enough.
Or we could just laugh at it and move on.

I am more offended by the old, unoriginal joke than I am by the apparent sexism. Does anybody actually laugh when they see these photos? "Haha, 'cause they're actually brothers! But we called them sisters! Sedins begin with "S", and guess what, so does sisters! Pure genius."
It's about as funny and fresh as calling Calgary fans Flamers.

Like I said in my post, I get the need to be sensitive, and govern myself accordingly around people I don't know. Around my friends, I will joke around however I feel within in the confines of jabbing or feather ruffling. I take a ton of heat over certain ethnic traits of my own, and give it back to my buddies. It's all just taking the piss out of each other.
But, anyone in this thread saying it is wrong, I'm sorry guys, then I better not see postings of how great the Bill Burr, Louis CK, Russell Peters... or any other of the extremely 'offensive' comics shows were. Because you are being a total hypocrite otherwise. And I am pretty certain I have seen many of the posters that are vilifying people that are defending off-colour humour of do exactly that.
Just because it is on a stage, doesn't make it any more right, than if it is on an internet forum. You can't pick and choose.
My point is, everyone's hyper sensitivity to anything that may potentially offend them, will eventually completely neuter comedy. That's the point I am trying to make. Positivity isn't funny, it's an Anthony Robbins motivational show. The best comedy by nature is offensive, uncomfortable, and hard to watch sometimes.

Who loves a good Russel Peters stand up routine? I do! I must be a racist, crap.
There's bigger and more pressing things to get worked up over than a Sedin Sisters comment. If you judge someone over a girly ('alleged sexist') comment your lives must be pretty squeeky clean.
The righteous herd mentality is strong this evening.

You simply put, do not get it. It basically has nothing to do with hockey ability. Calling them sisters is implying they're inferior simply because they're women. It is a ridiculous way to insult people.

And that it the stupid thing about the whole argument regardless of which side your on. That Joke is so 2009. And it hasn't been funny since then.
I prefer to call them, creepy ass, alien headed soul less ginger weirdos. But am I off side by offending creeps, red heads, and people with macrocephaly? Because the last thing I want to do, is hurt the feelings of a big headed peeping Tom with red hair. That wouldn't be right.
