For sure. That went very well.

What I know now is to never get in a fight with travelling Christian family bands. Those boys can take a punch! Not to mention a club to the head, pepper spray, and tazers. Jesus. No pun intended.

Those goddamn guys were tough!

That being said, in the end those cops did do a pretty good job, considering the circumstances. They kind of made the circumstances though, didn't they?

My guess is this family turns out to be sovereign citizens or some other nut job group. Sane people don't react like this.

Walmarts in the US are bizarre places, especially at night.

Unusual collection of people that place attracts.

I disagree almost all of the time in these kinds of threads with people who defend the police by claiming we don't know the whole story, but this is a situation where the cops should be commended for showing such amazing restraint... almost too much! As others have mentioned, why the hell were people not cuffed?!

In retrospect, I had no clear idea the one guy was fighting with the officer, trying to get his gun. My first few viewings looked like the family was just fighting amongst themselves in the parking lot and the police were trying to wrangle them up.

I guess, I hope that the only reason the one guy was shot was because of the fighting for the gun stuff, and not the other shenanigans, which did not seem, to me, to be reason to shoot anybody.

That was intense, those officers had no idea that it would turn like it did. Keep in mind 2 officers had been there when the 3rd and 4th show up things just go nuts like the family had this planned all a long.

Like most of the cases involving a deadly shooting, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I have no idea what the police can do better in this type of situation, is there some type of weapon they don't have that would help? A few cans of some type of tear gas?

At the start it really looks like they are baiting in the cops for some reason, then things get crazy.

How so? They didn't show up in the parking lot for a meet and greet with the band. They were called there by Walmart.

Hard to control without inflicting damage on yourself. Pepper was used extensively, it's more visible near the end as they're just spraying everybody. Short of lethal force, there's no way to contain people like this without tranquilizing them or something.

Brawls like this are not uncommon. Handcuffing people is not easy. No amount of training can make an Officer ninja-like. Despite some peoples beliefs, an Officer can not just do some Judo magic and get cuffs on a person if the person wants to fight.

These Officers did a very good job. Policing is a dirty game. Glad this video was released. It demonstrates the horrible reality of street level policing.

This family has obviously done some of their own training and planning for this inevitable encounter with police.

Police chief giving a pretty good run through of what's happening in slow time. What a crazy family...

Where are people getting the idea that only one person was shot? Watching this video the chief points out at about the 30.10 mark one of the officers shoots a guy that charges him in the abdomen and then shoots the guy on top of the officer fighting for his weapon. The first guy continues to fight even after being shot.

It's completely nuts. Those guys just wouldn't go down no matter how many times they were tased, pepper sprayed or struck with batons. I am shocked that officers showed such restraint after their colleague had been shot.

They were probably worried that they'd be crucified and have their careers shredded in the court of public opinion if they shot anyone (else), regardless of the provocation/justification.

Not so sure there is much of a "career" to shred.
These dashboard cams are useful. Not always the cops doing the wrong thing.

It's actually amazing how completely ineffective those tasers were. Frequently the darts don't get through the outer clothing, and when they do the guy's only briefly incapacitated.
