All year, the Flames played Gio and Brodie against the Sedins. They haven't played the Nucks since he got hurt. For me, that's the question of the series: can they shut down the Sedins without Gio?

With the Sens/Habs series on before the Flames/Nucks, I would assume if the first game goes long or into OT they show the Flames/Nucks on one of SN's HD channels? Anyone know for sure?

Not as worried about this at even strength... on the power play, sure, shutting down the top unit is key. But at even strength, the issue for the Flames is more dealing with VAN's scoring depth - if the Sedins get matched against Hudler Gaudreau Monahan and they cancel each other out, Flames probably lose the ES scoring battle on depth.
The Canucks don't have a lot of elite scoring talent at evens, but they do have a lot of guys who can chip in here and there. Only two twenty goal guys, but something like 10-12 ten goal guys.

That seems logical. So presumably SN won't do that and we'll miss the start of Flames games while the other channels show repeats of Misplays of the Month and poker tournaments.

Canucks have 1 thirty goal scorer, 1 twenty goal scorer, and 10 ten+ scorers.
Flames have 2 thirty goal scorers, 1 twenty goal scorer, and 8 ten+ goal scorers.
Seems pretty even.

Flames top line scored 86 goals
Flames rest of team scored 155 goals
Canucks top line scored 69 goals
Canucks rest of team scored 173 goals
If you want to look at those numbers and give the Canucks the edge for secondary scoring (12% more goals), then you also have to acknowledge that the Flames' top line is better (25% more goals).
Also (and apologies for nitpicking) but those numbers include the SO credits, the Flames actually scored one more goal than Van, not one less.
I believe the rest of team numbers should be 151 and 167 respectively.

Yes... keep forgetting about those goals being included in totals.
Wasn't really suggesting a big advantage.
I completely agree with you - the best players (of each teams best players) will determine the series.
And Richardson has 8 in 45 games though I guess he's probably out? Anyway I'm not saying the Canucks will outscore the Flames I'm talking about where the scoring is likely to come from outside of special teams. You can't just shut down the Sedins, Hudler & co. need to outscore them by a decent margin imo.
That said I think Backlund hard matched is a good idea.
EDIT: Oh I didn't realize you weren't counting the 20 and 30 goal guys WITH the ten goal guys, my mistake.

I feel strangely confident in this series. I like the Flames matchup with speed, but they have to find a way to break the Canucks cycle game.
While the Flames first line was more productive, where this series turns is offense from the blueline, and I don't think its even a question of close in terms of which blueline can be a bigger factor in terms of adding offense.
If the slower canucks can't keep up to the Flames transition it could be a long exhausting series for them.
If the Flames can keep their discipline and keep the Canucks power play on the bench the Flames will win.

Are you counting Vrbata and D. Sedin as 10+ goal scorers even though they are in the 30 and 20 category.
Yep, I was, my mistake.
