Like I said earlier in the thread, if they strip the organization to bare bones and promise Babcock the keys then its a much more realistic proposition.

Ridiculous.
You'd think with that many pro scouts they could have figured out Clarkson wasn't worth the contract they gave him.

nope 18 includes amateur scouts
Damien Cox @DamoSpin
Cold part of today's amateur scout firings by Leafs is their final draft lists had already been submitted. Tough business.

I think it is a slam dunk that Babcock ends up there. I think he has eyed it the whole season and already knew he was going there before this year even began. I think Detroit has gotten stale for him and he gets a chance to not only coach in Canada but to take on the ultimate challenge. As for GM, who the hell knows.

I am so glad Treliving was hired before Nonis lost his job.

I can see Babcock wanting a say in player personnel decisions. Perhaps something like Roy's title? I don't see Babcock adding the title of GM as that requires a lot more day to day duties.

I heard earlier in the year on Fan960 (I think it was Friedman), that Babcock was expected to be the highest paid coach at $3 million/yr. If I'm him, I'm asking for $5 million/yr over at least 5 years to join that gong show in Toronto. It's not like Toronto doesn't have the money.

is 41 scouts (18 fired +23 remaining) normal for a NHL team?
EDIT: Unless I'm mistaken (happens a lot) the Montreal Canadiens have 18 scouts total per NHL page. 41 would be ridiculous in comparison.
Flames have 14 per the Flames website...

Burke will bring Nonis to Calgary and let him work in the consesions. Then the nachos will taste like disappointment and failure

I think that they'll do this, and along with that there is just a desire for guys to go and be "the guy" in Toronto who finally broke the curse. I mean look at Babcock. He's done everything and won at every level. In some ways just the idea of winning in Toronto is probably enough to sway Babcock here.

Say what you will about the Toronto mess , but at least they are trying to clean it up. Can't say the same for Edmonton. I can't believe Katz didn't come in and fire everybody involved the minute their last game ended on Saturday . Starting to wonder how Katz had the smarts to have a multi billion $ pharmaceutical business ?

If I were them, I'd seriously consider Feaster.

Shero and McPhee are out there still, if Shanny is looking for an experienced GM. Both over saw the rebuilds in Pittsburgh and Washington.

Whats cold about this?
They had a job. They did it. They got paid for their work and will get paid for the rest of their contracts.
Cox is upset that they don't get to sit at the draft table?
Getting fired now means they can start searching for work now. Thats a big plus.

Oftentimes these types of scorched earth firings are ideal times to pick up quality. Groups of people get fired and management doesn't spend the time to separate the competent from the incompetent. If there is a solid scout in that cohort, you look into it.
