Tough call but a lot of me is leaning to the AHL because I think at this point more hockey against bigger older men is the right direction for Mark to go, especially if he can train with who ever Monahan and Colby trained with in the off-season to add some weight to his frame. Great showing when it counted from him, really impressed!

I disagree. Jankowski is just starting to find confidence in using his size. That probably gets reset if he goes to the AHL while he is still trying to fill out.
IMO it is better for him to fill out more, learn to use his frame better, then go to the AHL against larger/stronger opponents.

By the way guys, anyone else think John Gilmour was fantastic today? His never-quit-even-if-down attitude felt very Giordano-ish; he was an offensive driver though I don't know if he was on the stat sheet or not.

Plus, it gives the Flames another free year of development for him.

Question about that. Let's say Jankowski signs his ELC next year and Treliving convinces him to start it in 2016-17 season. Will he be considered a 22 year old (2 year ELC) or a 21 year old (3 year ELC)?

He'll be turning 21 by training camp, super excited about his development this year. Points don't equal everything and the points he did grab usually impacted the game a great deal, I really want to see him in the AHL next year but I won't be shocked/dissapointed if he stays to finish out his college career. Tough calls ahead for Brad which Hartley would call a good problem haha!

Gilmour looked fantastic.
And I'm with sureLoss, I want Jankowski back as a senior. The Friars might not be a top team any longer but he should be one of the go-to guys on that team.

Fact is Gillies gave up a bad goal tonight and put his team behind the 8 ball to start. Sounds like he's played well since and now he's won a championship which is great. I wouldn't expect him to step into the NHL anytime soon though. Probably needs a couple of years in the AHL, and there's nothing wrong with that. Still a great prospect.
Hilarious though. Fair game to criticize our NHL goalie for a weak goal especially if he's a post apex UFA signing, but better not make any criticism of our drafted prospects. They can never do any wrong.
|
You can critique prospects as much as you want, but don't think that means you can make incorrect sweeping declarations about a prospect. Gillies has stolen plenty of games this year, especially with the Friars focusing more on offence rather than defence. Gillies has been hung out to dry game in and game out and PC was still in a position to go all the way in the playoffs. Why? Sure, being one of the most offensive teams in Div. I this year helps, but they don't get anywhere close to this level of success without Gillies.
Did he let in a bad goal today? Yeah, he did. Did he make up for it with 49 other huge saves? Yeah, he did. Lots of those saves were huge saves at pivitol moments too.
Its fair to criticise Gillies for a bad goal, just like its fair to criticise Hiller or Ramo. It isn't fair, however, to say he can't make the big save or steal a game, when he does, and has on several occasions.
But by all means, continue to make outlandish declarations.

I suppose he could always make the jump straight from NCAA to the NHL, like other lanky forwards before him (Wheeler, Hayes), if he puts up a strong senior season next year.

Would be 22 years old.
In CBA terms, the age of a player is always determined by the age the player would be on September 15 of the year he signs.
Jankowski's birthday is September 13, 1994.

Any risk with this loss that Eichel opts to return to Boston next year for another crack at the National Championship?

Not sure which side I would fall on of the discussion of Jankowski turning pro now or playing out his senior year in the NCAA. Just going to watch this story play out without and preconceived belief I have drummed up in my head. Could be a coin flip when it comes down to it.
I think he could handle the rigors of the AHL. Can his offense flourish under Leemans style of game?

I really think Jankowski should stay in Providence for his senior year. He'll be one of the leader and his role might expand more. He's been improving every season and I can see him become a leader in this group. There is no need to rush the guy to go professional. I won't be scared of him signing with another team at all once he's done with his senior year.

Extremely small.
As a freshman he scored at a 1.77pts/g to lead the NCAA and won the Hobey Baker. He has shown that he is ready for the next level.
To stay would potentially cost him millions of $ as he would delay getting out of his ELC by a year and stagnate his development.

I think from an Asset Management prospective you have to try and bring Jankowski & Gillies in this summer.
I don't see the need to risk either of them getting to August 16th 2016. Both have proven they deserve a chance to play pro. Lock them up before the are on the open market, and start developing them in our system.
Chances are also allot better now they will consider moving on from their college careers, now that they are champions.

So whether we're signing him now, or not, we pretty much have to burn the 2015-16 season of his ELC one way or the other. I think I'd rather see him centering Poirier, Carroll, Klimchuk, Hathaway etc in Stockton in that case.

It's based on the player's age on September 15 in the calendar year in which he signed the contract. So, if he signs in 2016 (whether it starts in 2015-16 or 2016-17), he'll be considered 22 and it will be a two-year contract.
That might be one reason to sign him now. If they wait, they won't be getting any extra entry-level or RFA years out of it.

Looking forward to seeing all four of these guys in Flames uniforms. I'm find with Jankowski staying in Providence one more year, given the logjam we currently have at center. Need a year to see how our current centers shake out with Bennett in the lineup (assuming he plays that position).
Gilmour deserves more attention from Flames fans, he really impressed.
Now sign that ELC Gillies, damnit!

I read about those paws on the BU helmets. I guess when Jack Parker was HC he would give a paw print for great defensive contributions and doing the little things right like a good PK, blocked shot, the big hit of the night etc. They obviously kept the tradition going, did you guys get a look at Hickey's?? Wow.
Edit:
This pic is from the goal he got in the semi's, great look at the back of his helmet

With Gillies likely signing, I don't see the need for the Flames to have either Gilmour or Jankowski remain in Providence. They won't be nearly as good next year and the team in Stockton could use a good #1 center next year. If one should stay it would be Gilmour but that's only due to a lack of roster space in stockton and a lack of urgency to sign him.
