I'm guessing NHL is taking an unusually careful look at the injuries reported by the Flames. I also have no doubt all the guys mentioned have valid injuries to report.
Gaudreau however has been flying and seems just fine.

I doubt it. Healthy scratches, day-to-day, by the end of the season you could make almost any case you want to sit guys in preparation for the playoffs. For one game I dont think anyone is going to bother.

NHL's definiton of rookie:
Quote:
To be considered a rookie, a player must not have played in more than 25 NHL games in any preceding seasons, nor in six or more NHL games in each of any two preceding seasons. Any player at least 26 years of age (by September 15th of that season) is not considered a rookie.

Players don't lose their rookie status until after their 25th game, I believe.
EDIT: Goddamnit! I refreshed the page before hammering out a quick reply. Sureloss still beat me, even after taking the time to copy and paste from the NHL rulebook.

I get the whole Calder thing, but injuries happen... I would be supremely upset if he got hurt striving for a side prize when we should be preparing for the cup.

Better forfeit the whole game then to not risk any injuries.

Clearly not what I'm suggesting. Simply that he would be a priority to rest up for the playoffs. I'm thinking that the regular forwards who will be replaced will be due to legit nagging injuries, and Gaudreau is entirely healthy. Obviously Bouma, then Hudler and Monahan, and I think maybe Backlund based on his play recently.

Who is Winnipeg scratching for the game?

I think guys who are chasing a milestone shouldn't sit. Johnny Calder, Mony & Brodie are chasing a full 82 game season.
All other regular important guys should sit, which is what I think will happen anyway.
