Backlund was kind of a falling player.

Knowing Button had his eye on Kucherov makes me wonder why he didn't select him with either the Granlund or Wotherspoon picks knowing we didn't have a 3rd rounder. Having him and Johnny in the same draft would have been unreal.

Most likely he thought Kucherov wouldn't be taken that early.

Just like how Bruins had an eye on Gaudreau, but didn't expect him to be taken by the Flames

That is where the gamesmanship part of the draft comes into play.

Eichel is some kind of wonderful. I love the fact that we're doing as well as we are, but it kind of stings knowing we have no chance at McDavid or Eichel. I'll take playoffs over a lottery any day, but I'm greedy and want both.

Not that it will change much, but if Pittsburgh misses (they only need a point, I think, so they likely won't) Edmonton has their first rounder as well.

Ya that's kind of what I figured but seems a bit risky knowing you didn't have a 3rd. I guess it's a lot easier to say now that Kucherov has become a good player. At the time he must have felt Granlund and Wotherspoon were better. Can't complain though. It played a part in us getting Gaudreau.

Ya that Perron trade would look real good if Pens missed. That Sekera trade is looking really good for the Canes right now.

Tampa got Kucherov and Palat in that draft. Pretty good haul to get two top 6 forwards in one draft... And Palat was a 7th 0_o

The Kings pick was draft protected so that means the Canes are getting the 2016 draft no?

Yep, it was. See link:

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/k...ra-hurricanes/

On a side note, the bottom 7 teams have all locked their positions for the draft, before the lottery at least. Edmonton will have no worse than the 4th overall pick. Buffalo have guaranteed themselves either McDavid or Eichel. I know its not a new situation, but Arizona could pick 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Huge difference there.

So, assuming Buffalo wins the lottery, the teams will pick:

1st, Buffalo
2nd, Arizona
3rd, Edmonton
4th, Toronto
5th, Carolina
6th, New Jersey
7th, Philadelphia

Big swing for the next 4 teams. Columbus, Colorado, Florida, San Jose and Dallas could all still move quite a bit tomorrow, depending on how results go. LA have likely gotten the 13th overall pick, unless by some incredible stretch they win the lottery. Draft order starting to take shape. When is the lottery, Monday?

Kruise Reddick. Was projected to be a top 60 pick, then wasn't drafted in his year or as an overager. Ended up captaining the U of A Golden Bears to a CIS championship though.

One report said the depth is good until 45-50. With us obtaining the nucks second rounder, either ours or theirs will fall in that range, so may the caps depending on their playoff. But could this be the year we package a couple of seconds to move up to get another first? All well and good to spitball ideas but is there a team that could perhaps use quantity vs quality, or are we best to hold onto the picks and roll the dice on 3 2nds and hope they turn out?

If there is a hockey God he will not let this kid go to the oilers. Please be New Jersey or Columbus.

I also hope the Leafs do not win the draft Lottery otherwise McDavid will be dubbed the 2nd coming of Wayne Gretzky.

I'm hoping he goes to Phoenix. If any player can save that franchise, it's McDavid.

The best case scenario for the Flames is if both McDavid and Eichel end up in the eastern conference.

And yes hopefully not the Leafs.

As a fan, I want to see him more often. Western conference, please. Anyone but the Oilers.

No way do we want McDavid or Eichel in our division. If neither Edmonton or Phoenix end up with those two, despite how horrible they were this season, we will have dodged quite the bullet IMO.

Let Columbus win the lottery, and have those two end up in Columbus and Buffalo....two smaller market Eastern teams.

Being realistic, the Flames won't advance to the conference finals so will draft between 15th to 19th

Any chance Jeremy Roy falls in that area? Killington? I assume no chance Provorov falls that low?
