That's why I hope the Flames build an LA Live type complex with the new rink and stadium. Problem solved.

I think you are thinking of Glendale.
But the plaza area in front of the Staples Center would be a great place to hang out after games.
I agree LA Live could use some more pub type watering holes, but all in all, LA Live is excellent.

it would be great if they had a plaza to show the game and then license an area to serve. Could be really lucrative if the weather is nice.
The raptors used maple leaf square last year and I heard it was phenomenal atmosphere but not sure if they served booze. I am sure future arena plans will include a plaza since it is an easy way to print money for the owners. Almost all new arenas include the template from LA Live.

The City needs to set something up at Olympic Plaza to show the games live outside and maybe Stephen Ave can turn into a good strip for people, it's already a pedestrian corridor mostly anyways.

Can someone please restore the flames girls website? Cell phone camera's in '04 were pretty crappy, i still have some pics from those red mile days. Boobs in 1080p is going to be so much more awesome!
One more thing to distract me from doing real work...GFG!

In a way I get where the Calgary Police are coming from, that they can't just allow a free for all of open drinking and partying in the streets every 2-3 days for the next 2 months.
But unless there's an alternate official venue (viewing screens on the stampede grounds perhaps?) fans are still going to congregate in large numbers if the Flames make it past the 1st round.
They'd be much better off saying "public drinking will not be tolerated. We will be keeping the peace." instead of this hardline "stay away from 17th you guys!"

Throw up a white screen over the Coke Stage, and project it onto that...fun times would be had!

Unless they setup some sort of outdoor viewing/gathering area there is zero chance they can keep people from coming to 17th ave.

Someone with the connections should really forward this to the Flames powers that be.
Amazing story.

I still don't understand why it hasn't gravitated to Stephen Ave.
- Flames Central
- Tonnes of pubs/lounges (Libertine, National, Local, Earls/Vbar, Unicorn, Bear/Kilt, James Joyce, Met etc, etc, etc, etc).
- Olympic Plaza right there for mass gatherings
- Its already set up for pedestrians.
- C train right there

It just might.
The bars on 17th aren't like they used to be.

Honestly, that'd be kind of a ####ty thing to do at this point. That was 11 years ago, and I'm sure a few of those girls are now professionals and would rather not have those pictures circling. Not to mention the fact that a lot of them were underage at the time.

Showing the games at Olympic Plaza should be an easy decision to make. They do events there quite frequently and it would be a perfect opportunity to rally more support and it could also be a big boom for the food trucks in the city.

FWIW, I sent an email to Ken King with a link to the thread. Hopefully the Flames can help this guy out.

I agree. There's also less residential right adjacent - perhaps the City/Police can set it up for the party.
