Not even close... Patrick Sharp had 36 goals in 2007-08.... kind of fit in with Kane and Toews..... sort of like Hudler with Monahan and Gaudreau.

Kane won the calder and Toews finished 3rd.

Sharp did not get a single vote for the Hart.

Hudler is more important to the Flames than Gio? How soon we forget.

I think the same applies for any player who only gets a vote or two locally. It's homerism. It's far less deserving and far less meaningful than getting votes outside of your market. And if the only votes you get are votes that are likely from a bias source then you really didn't get consideration at all. Jiri has had an amazing year but judging on the support in this thread I think even Flames fans realize he hasn't had a Hart trophy season in comparison to some other players around the league. At the end of the day though I'm sure Jiri, his teammates, the organization, and all Flames fans will gladly take playoffs over Hart consideration any day.

Which would be "Hart Consideration" as Turek said.
But Montreal is in McDavid territory without the best goalie on the planet.
First off, Hudler for the Hart? Come on. The guy has played lights out, but his season has not been Hart trophy material. He rarely "puts the team on his back". He has been racking up points but he does not dominate and completely take over games, like a Price, or Tavares, or Crosby would do. Hudler has been a huge benefiter from playing with JH, and Monahan. I know that the same could be said for any one of the three on that line.

My main thing however is you could argue Hudler has been Calgarys Hart candidate, but you could also make the same argument for Monahan, Johnny, or even Wideman. They have all been equal to the Flames success. None of them stick out as the lone Flames MVP with out question. The Flames have gotten where they have on 100% team play, and scoring by committee, led by the first line.

Good story in The Hockey Writers on Jiri Hudler calling his performance with the Flames this year "criminally underreported".

Quote:
But one storyline that is being criminally underreported is the success of forward Jiri Hudler.

Hudler, 31, is having a career year for the ages. With 72 points in 76 games he’s already shattered his previous career high in points of 57, from all the way back in 2009. Those 72 points puts him 8th overall in the league, behind big names like Tyler Seguin and Nicklas Backstrom and ahead of other superstars like Daniel Sedin and Steven Stamkos.

Possibly even more important for the young Flames roster, however, is how Hudler’s veteran presence is positively rubbing off on his two young linemates, Gaudreau and Monahan.

“He’s an unbelievable hockey player, probably one of the smartest hockey players that I’ve coached.” said Flames coach Bob Hartley, as reported by the Calgary Sun. “He’s gifted, has skills. And he has the gift to make other people around him better.
Quote:
“He’s really skilled. He can make plays. He can make special plays,” added Monahan. “I think when you play with a guy like that, you’ve always gotta be ready. He’s doing a great job of putting pucks to the net and setting guys up, and he’s taking charge that way.”

Not only has Hudler been leading the Flames’ offense all season long, but he’s stepped up his game at the most important of times. With a playoff spot hanging precariously in the balance Hudler exploded in the month of March, scoring 23 points in 15 games to keep Calgary in the race.

He's been great the last couple of months but for most of the season our best player was Mark Giordano. He'd have definitely gotten some votes if he played the whole season.

I bet one guy isn't upset at Hudler being criminally under-reported - Jiri Hudler.

Hudler for Flames team MVP - which he will say should have gone to Gio, since he is humble.

As for league wide awards, Lady Byng consideration (with Henrik Sedin, Anze Kopitar, Pavel Datsyuk, Logan Couture and Johnny Gaudreau).

I don't think it's as laughable as some think it is. I guess I see it more as a statement on how quietly he had a superstar season and how important he is for the Flames. 7th overall in points is superstar territory, and as far as the Flames go, he seemed like the glue for the forwards. And supposedly he was great with the kids.

I mean he won't win it, and I wouldn't vote for him, but it's an interesting point to make. Makes you think about his very real contributions that sometime got passed over with the great stories of Monahan, Gaudreau, and Giordano.

Supposedly that was more about politics and the fact he wouldn't play at the worlds (which is much more important in Europe)

But yeah, even if they did have a good reason to be mad (and I'm not sure they did), your just hurting yourself by making a dopey decision like that.
