I don't think criticism from any source regarding player development is offside when you consider that the Flames have missed the post season the past 5 seasons and 12 of the past 17 and might not get in again this season.
The Burkey fly by upon arrival from Toronto where he wet the bed is a head scratcher and as I've suggested before was more of a shot at Feaster than the player as he laid the paper trail for his firing.

If you're going to back that far to paint the organization in a certain light, you might as well keep going back and reference the 86 finals and the 89 cup victory.

Since their playoff series against each other in 2003-04 ...
Canucks 1st and 2nd year players : 75
Goals : 161
Assists : 244
Points : 405
PPG : .249
10+ goal seasons: 6
20+ goal seasons: 0
30+ goal seasons: 0
20+ point seasons: 9
30+ point seasons: 2
40+ point seasons: 1
Flames 1st and 2nd year players : 74
Goals : 217
Assists : 332
Points : 549
PPG : .362
10+ goal seasons: 9
20+ goal seasons: 4
30+ goal seasons: 1
20+ point seasons: 7
30+ point seasons: 5
40+ point seasons: 4
Now development means goaltenders, checking wingers, and defensive defenseman too ... for sure.
Average draft position would have to considered, granted.
But when it comes to production the numbers pop out.

I started getting my doubts after seeing Baertschi in Penticton. At the time, my homer bias was defending his play, but in the back of my mind, I kept thinking how he looked lazy and disinterested out there, and so many other rookies looked better than him. It's too bad, Baertschi seems to be shooting himself in the foot with his way of thinking. Whatever, not our problem now.

This thread is getting bumped because people have opinions one way or the other, plus all the complaining about the complaining....
Anyway, if we meet him in the playoffs there will be more of it.
I think Burke was out of line, but Sven is making a good case for being called a diva, with his statements. Also, Sven comments sound a lot like those of Yak and few other Oil darlings.
If anyone saw the link to the comments by the agent of Seven and Niederreiter, the two situations are a carbon copy.

How about these quotes from Baertschi from a Vancouver Article http://vancouver.24hrs.ca/2015/04/08...facing-flames:
Quote:
"I was just so excited. That’s what I wanted, to be in a place where they appreciate the way I play and help me out with whatever I need and don’t try to make me something I’m not.”
|
Quote:
“I think overall your whole game kinda gets a little boost and you do certain things out there that – in a system where it’s more about grinding – you don’t usually do. At times, it seemed like we were on the puck 70 % of the game with Utica and I love that.”

Those quotes are what 90% of this thread has been about since he made them...

Just adding more quotes to the conversation. Article was posted yesterday anyways, and this thread is about the Baertschi departure.

What CorsiHockeyLeague is saying is that those quotes were posted already, and the last several pages of discussion have been about them.

And then posts #1865 until now.

Anyone see the TSN ice chips today? Canucks projected line-up:
Daniel-Henrik-Burrows
Higgins-Bonino-Vrbata
Kenins-Horvat-Hansen
Baertschi-Vey-Dorsett
Sven is right back at home.

Until Baertschi starts lighting it up for the 'Nukcs, I encourage my fellow Flames fans to just move on. Hopefully Baertschi will, too.

Sven is undoubtedly talented but he's a classic skilled support player. He cannot drive the play himself and relies on others to blaze the path for him. If you surround him with garbage, he's soft and plays like garbage.
We all saw the difference when he played with Monahan. If centered by Henrick, he could pull a Cheechoo and piggy back his way to points. Hopefully Vancouver never promotes him to the top two lines. If he remains on Vancouver's 4th line, he's going to continue to exhibit the same issues and same entitlement problems and lack of success.

Given that Vancouver has clinched I wouldn't be totally shocked if he did get a look in the top 6 and some PP time just to showcase him for fans.

If Sven gets any ice-time in the playoffs for the Canucks I would be shocked.

I always take Sven's comments with a grain of salt. He is no politician, and where comments like that sound like he is flipping is the bird, instead he is just Swiss-germaning by saying what he believes the facts are. No ill will, this is the way I feel, that is that. As North Americans we like to read between the lines as per our hockey-statement-cultural-norms.
That said. Hope we meet the Canucks in the playoffs, and I hope we show him what heart means on the ice.

Sven with another uninspired effort logging the least ice time of all Canucks players in the game against Arizona. I guess Willie Desjardins too hates him now and tries to make him into something he's not.
