Default Cell Phone Photography

I saw this on another forum and wonder what everyone thinks...
http://www.nbc10.com/news/9574663/detail. html

How far does photography on cell phones go?

Your link has an extra space before html. It should be:

http://www.nbc10.com/news/9574663/detail.html

Regarding the question, camera phones and even digital cameras these days pose a number of ethical and privacy type questions. Lots of places have policies against camera phones and cameras. Many companies have policies against them as well. In this case it seems like an over reaction by the cops. If he was a news cameraman would they have prevented him from shooting?

Imagine how simple this really is:

People standing in line at a shop. Person "A" is standing in front of "B".

B is "on the phone" (although really they aren't, they are just waiting for the right moment).

A takes out their credit card to pay for product at said shop.

*click*

B purchases multiple items on internet via A's credit card number which was conveniently photographed with a cell phone.

Except.. wouldn't you need to know the correct billing address, and shipping address that is different from billing raises an eyebrow to me. Not to mention that a lot of online purchasing also requires the three digits on the back of the card as well.

Take 2 pictures. I know what your getting at... but you probably know what I'm getting at too. There arises some criminal possibilities considering most figure that the guy with a phone is just a guy with a phone, right?

I could actually see this law being valid because, when someone raises their hand and points it at a cop, and the object is cell/gun-sized, a LOT of bad incidents could result. A cop in the heat of the moment could easily gun down a kid pointing a cell phone at him, especially at night. I think there's some validity to that argument, at least.

Can you say breach of civil liberties. How far is the US from becoming a police state? I love the hypocrisy on the parts of government and police, we can watch you all the time without your permission but you take one photo of us when we don't want you to and your under arrest.

Especially at night? So they will gun down a kid because he's holding something with a glowing screen?

Do they also ban making a phone call at the crime scene because holding out the phone to dial it could look like firing a gun?

We need new cops if they have problems with shooting bystanders.

Cops are probably pretty touchy about being photographed making arrests. Something about that Rodney guy video causing a little problem.

If that's the case, they shouldn't be doing anything they would be embarassed about being caught on tape doing.

I only have a Cell Phone is just for the roads. If im late in traffic or on a highway and stall I can call for a tow truck. Other then that I dont see the need for a phone just to talk to my friends on a c-train or walking in a mall

I guess this brings up the bigger debate of cameras altogether (even though I didn't title it that way). Have you seen some of the newer point and shoot digital cameras these days? Some are smaller than a deck of cards with a 6-8MP resolution.

The guy could get a way better picture with one of those.

I guess it's a matter of when taking pictures is ok vs not ok for us non-media types.

Phones are regulated to make a sound when taking a picture. However, my phone has the ability to turn the sound off I think.

Have you used a cell phone camera? You don't point the glowing part at the cop, you point the dark part at the cop. The glowing part is facing you.

You talk on your cell the same way you use a gun? Taking it out, holding it well in front of you, with one hand? Wacky, I've never seen anyone do that.

You don't see at all how cops in the middle of a crime scene could be made jumpy by someone pulling something out of their pocket and pointing it at them in the dark? Your call I guess... personally, I can imagine a cop thinking the worst and acting on it.
