Huge blow to the Chiefs as Roaf may be the most important member of that offence. Last year in weeks 2-6 the Chiefs offence looked pretty ordinary when he wasn't around. When he was back the Chiefs had a dominant running game which in turn opened up a lot of options in the passing game. In the last 6 weeks of the season that KC offence racked up a lot of yards running left behind big Roaf.

So if you were thinking of taking Larry Johnson in your fantasy pool, maybe you were thinking Priest Holmes might make for a good backup guy....don't do it too early as I think they'll have pretty average seasons as the Chiefs O-line that used to be great has lost two great guys in Roaf and Welbourne on the tackles and only replaced Welbourne. The rushing Touch Downs may not be quite as plentiful.

Whitlock is all giddy over Turley replacing Roaf. Also on NFL total access last night Herm acted like the Chiefs were not 100% about Roaf retiring. Carl was also optimistic on the weekend.

Another blow to the O-line is the foot injury to Brian Waters. They were saying a week, now they say he could miss some of the regular season. Scary! For Chiefs fans anyway.

Well I read that Turley was signed to replace Welbourne, and that with Roaf they'd have to go to the depth chart. Maybe they can switch Turley to the left side, I'm not sure if he can play both sides. But either way the Chiefs will be lacking a top end tackle if Roaf is indeed done. Roaf's been year to year with the Chiefs for a few seasons now so it would be less than surprising if he did change his mind. I'd like to see him back as the Chiefs offensive unit is pretty old for the most part and this likely is their last kick at the can.

This is probably one of those cases where, once the 2-a-days end, he will decide to come back. A lot of those veteran linemen hate training camp.

I have read that most of the Chiefs veteran players have tried calling Roaf but none have been successful in actually talking to him. Herm also mentioned that Roaf was injured and out of the lineup for three of the games that Larry Johnson started last season. Vs Oakland 22 attempts, 107 yards, 2 TD, long of 15 yds. At Buffalo, 27 attempts, 132 yards, O TD, long of 24 yards. At Houston, 36 attempts, 211 yards, 2 TD, long of 30 yards. My big concern with the loss of Roaf is QB protection. That is Green's blind side, and lets face it. At his age he can't afford to be taking alot of hits.

I just saw the Carl Peterson press conferance on the NFL network announcing the Bennett trade. Reporters asked him a bunch of questions about Roaf. Peterson is suppossed to meet with Willie's agent later this week. Peterson said that he told the agent if Willie is retiring the Chiefs want to do it right and have a press conferance with Willie in attendance. Roaf's agent said that Willie isn't ready to do that yet. Peterson also said that he is somewhat optimistic that Willie will have a change of heart and that the Chiefs don't believe that Roaf has completly decided to retire or the Chiefs would have him on the innactive list.

He's just avoiding training camp in the mid-summer heat. He'll come back for the last few pre-season games.

It's also a big impact on production you'd get from Gonzo. When Roaf was hurt last season Gonzo had to stay in to block most plays limiting his production..which sucked for us Gonzo owners.

Yeah, no doubt. When Roaf was out the Chiefs couldn't get their passing game and running game going at the same time. When Roaf was healthy those last 7 weeks the Chiefs offence racked up a lot of yards and Trent Green had a lot of 300 yard games. In the first half of the season Green was well back in passing yards and had very few TD passes. Even in the Buffalo game mentioned above where Johnson had 132 yards rushing the Chiefs accounted for 3 points and had no passing game whatsoever.

Hopefully Bobblehead is right and Roaf is just avoiding the two a day work outs. The Chiefs have a lot of older personell and this is pretty much their last chance before they need to make some big time changes. If Roaf is around they stand a much better shot than if he isn't.

It sucks doesn't it. The Chiefs had an unbelievable offense. They could score at will. But the Defense was a disgrace. Not only could the oppositon score at will. They could completely control the clock and keep the offense off the field. How embarrassing was it when Denver went for it on fourth down everytime and got a first down. Now the Chiefs may have an improved defense but the offense is declining. At least the Vermeil era had some exciting football to watch.
