no way they throw Bennett into this one, way too much pressure
Bollig is also a vet who has been there before, he was good enough to play 82 games for the hawks last season and they did alright
|
yeah I'm thinking this is more of a muscle move then anything.. LA gets pretty chippy, especially when they play their "A" game.
I still think Drew Shore the better option, and better then Raymond and even Ferland IMO.

I wanna see Bennett as much as you guys but he has earned nothing. Lets get to the playoffs with the guys that got us here

Remember this when we watch Bollig plod around all game, and Calgary needs just that one game breaking player to step up.When has Bennett had the opportunity to "earn it"?

And you're probably one of those fan's who wanted to keep Glencross because where else would our other scoring come from

All I have to say is I'm glad that the management level of this team has a boat load more sense, better perspective, and invested interest in setting up prospects to succeed rather then fail then some of the posters on this board.
Keep doing what your doing Hartley and crew... you've proven you're on the right track. If that means Bollig Thursday who the hell am I to second guess. I'll enjoy the game because... oh ya! There are 19 other guys playing the TEAM game I love.
Going from the minor to the majors is not like crossing the street... stop talking like it is.

Bennett is an 18 year old who has never played a pro game in his life and will be playing an insanely desperate defending cup champion. If he truly was ready for this moment, I'm sure Bob would throw him in.

I think this team is more skilled then the '04 team, but the one thing we had then was Kipper.

God this grinds my gears when people do this.

speed and discipline will win this game for us. The Kings aren't exactly world beaters right now and if they're going to defend their title the better start playing Like it.
without looking at the statistics I don't think that the Kings are very disciplined.

Only way I see Bennett getting in is injury replacement. Shore should draw in for Bouma but I get why Hartley would want to plug Bollig into the line up.
Super pumped to see Ortio skating in full gear. If he's a week away that's a huge bonus depending on how much longer Ramo is out.
I really want to see Bennett draw into the line up but, two injuries are going to have to happen from that become a reality.
Once Adirondaks season is done, how many of those skaters are eligible to play in the playoffs? Ortio is eligible no? Seeing as he has games played with the Flames?

I hope we could clinch Thursday(obviously) and that Bennett could draw in against Winnipeg while resting someone else

I think if we're gonna rest some guys, we're going to want to see how our "black aces" perform... Wotherspoon, Poirer, Shore, maybe even Hanowski, Reinhart, etc. And hopefully Sam Bennett of coarse, but it seems like he doesn't really know the system yet so I think he's mostly here to get experience.

Ortio was injured six weeks ago. Six weeks recovery is about right for a light to moderately-severe high ankle sprain. Hope it all goes well and he can get in some solid practice time, and it's not inconceivable that he sees some playing time if the Flames do what we hope they do...by which I mean we could soon be hearing some more of that sweet Brass Bonanza on the CFAC Overtime show! (superstition prevents me from being more direct with what I'm trying to say here)

I was a huge advocate of inserting Bennett in vs. Edmonton or Phoenix... but I'm not liking the idea of throwing him in cold in the biggest game of the year against the Stanley Cup champs.
The Edmonton and Phoenix games were important, but the chances of Bennett making a mistake that costed us either of those games was relatively low.
If he were to step in to the games tonight and make a mistake that costs us a goal or god forbid the game, it could be a huge setback for Sam. He just doesn't need to be put in that position.
Hopefully we clinch tonight and Bennett can play vs. Winnipeg.
I was really hoping he could have stepped in against one of the lesser teams and made an impact. It's going to be more and more difficult to put him in there now unless an injury all but demands it.

That's not what I said at all, and I have definitely not agreed with all decisions made this year, in fact I think down the stretch there are a number of players who could have decided to sit in the press box because they seemed to be slipping and it would have been good to slot in a young guy to see if he can not only fill in but excell.
But you don't do this on the biggest game for this team against a huge threat like LA, against the Yote's or Greasers I could see but not LA and not with this much on the line, that's loading the decks as far against Sam as you can and I'd seriously questioning the thinking of management to do that to him.
I just think people make light of the level of NHL play, the value of experience involved, and while I do think some of the current players haven't been perfect nobody is, and that they don't deserve the constant bashing some people give them, it's like if someone isn't scoring or doesn't make that perfect play they aren't contributing. Grinding in the corners, or just looking after their defensive responsibility, or hauling ass back instead of coasting to the bench after a long offensive run is just as important in the game, and in the eyes of the fellow team-mates, and a big reason they are where they are, but to hear people talk sometimes half the team are bums in their eyes if their not all dangling hotdogs putting pucks in the net.
That's what grates on my gears. So each to their own I guess.
