I would like all the classic Wu-Tang albums way more if you could get versions without the skits. Liquid Swords without the skits would be one of my favorite records. With the skits I get annoyed every time it comes up on shuffle.

100% agree on Rakim, he invented modern MC'ing, I will always have him in my top 5. The Wu one is interesting, because from a straight up standpoint (Wu albums and ATCQ albums), Tribe wins easily, but if you include the Wu Solo albums and you get Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and Liquid Swords and Supreme Clientele too, then it's really tough to decide.

But since I outta go unpopular, from a pure MC/lyricist point of view, Organized Konfusion > A Tribe Called Quest.

I never really thought about the impact of the long distances between venues being a dampening factor in the Canadian music industry, but that is a really good point. Good, but broke bands are not going to break out of their local areas enough to get a good following.

One of my favourite newer Canadian bands, Mother Mother, got their start by getting lucky in getting noticed by the Vancouver Province, then getting a spot on a national broadcast. How many great bands didn't get that lucky break in one of Canada's few densely populated areas?

I wouldn't count a band that hasn't released anything in almost a decade "recent". As for prolific Muse has six studio albums and three live albums compared to Tools four studio albums so...

They also are not "similar", dude, what have you been smoking? They're not even in the same genre. I mean yeah, Tool is among Muse's influences, but so are the Beach Boys.

Besides, Tool are pretty meh. Their one song is really good, and they can play it in a hundred different ways, but in the longterm they're more like a sidenote that says "influenced a lot of good bands with their one good song".

Well, they could learn how to play live and make money the old fashioned way. Back before streaming, there were too many studio bands that couldn't perform well live. Now putting a on a good concert is the only way many of them make a lot of money.

• Bands can't release a 12 song album every year with 1 good song 11 boilerplate filler tracks, otherwise people will just download the one song (a lot of people will still buy albums if the whole thing is good).

Perhaps you are right that it has made some musicians into glorified jungle writer, but I see way more positives out of it.

Far better than all of the other rock I've heard on Pop radio in the last 15 years.

Jack White, Black Keys, RHCP, Sam Roberts... on down the list.

I don't hate Imagine Dragons, but there is certainly much better rock music.

Maybe don't listen to pop stations for rock music?

I'm just talking that song specifically. There other stuff is bland as hell.
I've lost interest in the rock that is played on rock radio in high school. The whole genre is dead to me for the most part. For every Awolnation or Black Keys song there are about a million crappy 3 power chord recycled songs.

I would agree. Q-Tip is great, and the Jazz-rap era was cool and all, but Outkast is just so so good. Andre 3000 is a legitimate top 5 rapper and Big Boi is pretty amazing too.

They had a three album stretch (Southerplayalistic, ATLiens, Aquemini) where there is only one song that I have to skip (Mamacita on Aquemini ... I just can't). For rap, this is incredible. 20 years later, I can put on those albums and just listen to them and they are still killer. Then they released Stankonia which was still decent.

True enough, but as Roger said it is hard to be a live act in Canada, especially Western Canada. The distances between gigs is huge.

I don't know too many bands here that have a goal of making money. They make music because they have the urge to create and perform.

Mamacita lol. I seriously don't know anyone who likes that song, like not even by accident or something. And yet Aquemini is still top 5 rap albums ever in spite of it.

So unpopular opinion now....ok, Mr. Bungle is the most talented collection of musicians ever.

Somewhat popular opinion: The Chili Peppers are virtually unlistenable without Frusciante. Even more than Flea, he makes them as a band.
