Scoring Winger
|
I hope Winnipeg clinches with a win vs Colorado Thursday. They can't shuffle around in the standings and will likely rest players Saturday afternoon with no desperation to win. Hope the flames do rely on that but it would be one more thing to give the Flames an easier road or less nerve racking anyways. I'm guessing Winnipeg would prefer to see Calgary in the playoffs, meeting LA in round two wouldn't be desirable one would think.

Not really, if they have beaten the Oilers tonight, they would be sitting at 95 pts, then Thursday game is a must-win for the Flames. Now that they lost to the Oilers, and sitting at 93, the most they can get is 97 pts and 39 ROW. If we get a loser pt on Thursday and another loser pts on Sat, we can still make the playoff and them not because we hold the tie breaker of 40 ROW.
In summary, the Oilers win tonight is HUGE for the Flames...

First time in 27 games between the Kings and Oilers that the Oilers win in regulation.
One Time.

I can only imagine how much money was lost today betting against Edmonton.

No, we need two point difference between the clubs to clinch (LA drops 2 or Cgy gains 2). In that scenario, LA drops 0 but Cgy gains 1. No clinch yet.

Any form of win against LA or Winnipeg is in. We can now win in OT/SO and still clinch.
Regulation loss for LA vs. San Jose also has the Flames in, even if we lose out.

I was so certain the Oilers were gonna go full Oiler after that center ice goal by Doughty. Then, they didn't. I can't believe it! This must mean the Oilers have turned yet another corner.

Guys. Could you imagine if the Flames went into Edmonton on Saturday, their season pretty much on the line, then they end up losing to the Oilers!?!
Wow, that would be embarrassing! Haha, stupid Kings!

In all seriousness. Regardless of these silly rivalries and results. I just learned Richard Bachman lost his brother last week, and as someone who has lost a couple siblings at a young age myself, it's a really tough road to recovery. And although I am not an NHLer, going back to work and doing your best was sometimes the best therapy. Kudos to the Oilers for supporting him in the win, and kudos to Richard for I am sure... playing that game for his bro.
I am sure that unexpected win was dedicated to him, and made him proud.

When I made the thread title, I felt a little stupid writing such an improbable statement. I'm as surprised as anyone!

After the flames win, in front of the NE exits there was a group of ~100 people. They were all shouting "go oilers go". Never been so sick and happy at the same time.

If the Flames lose on Thursday they are still in a playoff spot...that is the difference

... Though listening to people in the Saddledome chanting "let's go Oilers!" when we stayed to watch the end of that game was disconcerting.
