That's not my point.
If Bennett isn't quite ready because he still needs more time understanding Calgary's systems etc. that's fine.
But this worrying about him having a bad game and fretting about it - as if Bennett has a delicate sensibility - just stop it!

I think that was a secondary concern. But, imagine if he makes that mistake at this point in the season and costs us a playoff berth. Don't you think that would weigh on his mind? At 18, would that be fair?

If Bennett isn't ready and most likely will not play, why didn't they put him in AHL....

Perhaps he does though? we've heard stories about how emotional he can get in certain situations. Perhaps they are trying to keep him on an even keel while he continues to grow and mature.

Plan B-2? B-1 being Bollig?
I agree with southside and I also believe Conroy knows better than us. If Bennett is getting answers wrong with his Q&A with Conroy, then he's probably not going to be playing effective hockey.
I guess a metaphor would be like the movie 300 where the guy has an amazing spear thrust, but isn't able to protect his fellow Spartans with the shield yet (Phallanx). Bennett has an amazing offensive gift, no doubts about that. But I'm guessing he doesn't know the defensive system well enough yet to warrant a game especially since we're in a playoff race. If the games meant nothing, I bet he would have played already. I'm wondering if the same goes for Wotherspoon.

I don't think it's a blanket statement. I think the guys who deal with Bennett and watch him practice and chat with him and monitor/mentor him know better than we. Perhaps the wording is wrong, perhaps the wording is right. I don't know. But management knows better than the rest of us. Trusting them has blown away all our expectations and then some. Respecting their decisions for another 3 games is probably warranted at this point.
I want to see Bennett as much as the next guy, but IMO, management has earned silence from me for the next 3 games. This has been a crazy ride. The next 3 games will likely be no different.

I've said this before. I'm not sure why it bothers me even. Normally I'm a live and let live kinda guy, but...
If you ain't gonna wear the tie, just take it off completely! Looks so shabby like that, and there is nothing wrong with not wearing a tie 24/7.

That is pretty sexist, I like Haagen Daz as well.

For the record, Conroy, Treliving and Burke were all at the Hitmen game last night as well.

Because they called up Wotherspoon with their last recall, Bennett is stuck wherever they assigned him to.
The fact that they chose Calgary means they may play him yet. Whereas if he went to Adirondack, that would be it for this year.
Though playoffs are another story I believe.

Yeah, at the beginning, they said they were going to keep it short so they could get to the game, but it still ran more than 90 minutes. Rollie Cyr announced the score was 3-0 after 1 right at the end of the Forum. So, they probably made it there for the start of the second.
Another funny thing I remembered. At one point, Burke asked if anyone knew the score of the Winnipeg game. People shouted out that it was 1-0 for the Jets. Burke's only response was "Goddammit."

I will say that Treliving sounded a little more positive about Bennett getting into a game than Conroy did. He said that it's up to Hartley to decide when Sam is ready to play. It doesn't even necessarily have to be this week. They could be going into game five of the first round of the playoffs and decide they need a spark, and Sam could get in.

Maybe they keep Sam as a secret weapon for the Kings and Jets games.
Keep the gorilla caged until the games we need him the most.

Cool thanks. I knew if he was assigned to AHL he couldn't come up until the end. Didn't know about not being able to go down from NHL to AHL.

On another play, the Oilers were cycling in the Flames' zone and Conroy asked Sam what he'd do if he was Monahan, and Sam said to swarm the puck carrier. Conroy said "I don't know what they do in Kingston, but in Calgary, we don't swarm."

Seems like they want Bennett to play center from the start, they will not start him as left winger to help adapt to the game, as some were suggesting.

I am totally fine with it - it is the Brand of Burke. Like jackets made from your mother's drapes is Cherry's thing.

Not sure it's exactly how you are describing it. There's only (or was only) 4 games left in the season for Bennett when he got called up. Putting aside the value of those games is much higher than a regular game, I think it is different than say if this was the start or middle of the season. In those scenario's, IF, Bennett didn't do well, there are actions and next steps he can take to keep progressing and not dwell on the error. Go to the minors and work on things, work in practice, see the game from the press box etc.... Things that allow him, a first time NHL player to take immediate action on any opportunities he has or mistakes he's made.
He has no option but to stew really on anything negative that potentially happens on the ice this week, which can't be good for long term confidence of a young player. Different than if they were afraid to have him make a mistake at the start or middle of the season.
