I'll say it; I think Wideman's been as important to this team's success or more so than any other player on the team this season.

Definitely did not think the Flames picked up a 50+or Dman and 70+or forward when they signed Wideman and Hudler in the summer of 2012

He's really stepped up in Gio's absence. His play in the last month has been faultless, and that's coming from a Wideman critic.

Friedman listing off other defencemen who have scored 52 points in a season.

Pretty impressive list.

Was a hater of him for a long time, but I am happy to see that he has been able to elevate his play this season. He has been a major reason for the success of the team this year! Congrats Denis!

Wideman took a lot of abuse last year when he was injured most of the year and still put up .5 PPG.

Wideman gets my vote for most improved Flame this year. He's been very good at both ends of the ice.

But his offense has saved our bacon after Gio went down. Mainly because Brodie has been a shadow of his former self minus Gio.

Wideman has earned his contract this season and some. The guy is a HUGE reason why the Flames remained in the playoff race after Gio went down to injury, and even before. He is picking up big minutes, and still able to produce offensively at an incredible rate. It has been a pleasure watching him this season.

Not many defenseman achieve the 50+ point plateau, he joins elite company in the offensive defenseman category.

Why do folks view last season as such a disaster. His +\- was terrible yes, but on a terrible team. He still put up 21 points in 46 games, that's over a 40 point season when prorated.
