Because I want the sport I love the most to be recognized by the country that has the majority of the teams for the skill it takes, not for being the punchline on late night talk shows.

I accidentally clicked thanks for the post on this. Lanny might be getting a little long in the tooth but any true Flames fan knows he is owed a lifetime of respect.
My dad is his biggest fan, and 3 years ago, I wanted to give him a signed Lanny jersey to replace the one I lost when I was a kid. I know his daughter through business, and she sent the package down to Montana where he was, 2 hours from an airport, and not only did he drive to the airport to sign the thing, he packed in a bunch of other memorabilia, and sent it back on his own dime to make sure it made it in time for Christmas.
Lanny has never forgotten about his fans. And is probably the nicest ex-NHLer you will ever meet.

As getbak says, Ford won't be on the selection committee. If he's very lucky, he'll get to vote on what colour to paint the fire doors, and whether to fire the janitor or trade him for future considerations.
Likely he gets this job because he has to do some kind of committee work, and this is the place where he will do the least damage.

Toronto City Council probably put him on because he's got to have some appointments and the Hall facility is so well run by staff he doesn't have to actually do anything.

He is a Flames legend but his views on the HHOF isn't going to change. Listen to his interviews. It's very insular.
