I think that is so cool. If I ever won the lottery or could afford it I would totally attend the Spengler Cup. I think those rinks look awesome and I love the standing fan section where they pass your beer to you.

Sprinkle in some hotels & apartment highrises, and you got yourself an entertainment district people want to go to.

Not enough room but one could easily fit in Winnipeg's Investors Group Field (CFL) and Minnesota's Xcel Energy Center (NHL) into the west village area with room for a fieldhouse on the western bit as well. Rework the roadways a bit, cover the stadium - crude, crude mock-up...

Keep in mind that 14 street interchange would likely get a do over along with Bow Trail.
Pretty much, that whole entire area from 14 street to Crowchild Trail would get a complete makeover.

Is the Spengler Cup really expensive to attend, or something? Apart from being in Switzerland, it shouldn't be any more expensive than any other sporting even around the world, I'd imagine.
And yeah, that arena in Davos is possibly the coolest hockey arena on the planet. I would love to see an NHL team try something like...most of the NHL rinks out there are a little homogenous.

It is for sure, but it's not necessarily lottery-winners-only expensive. You're an accountant...just fudge the numbers.

The technology and engineering exists to do an NHL sized sports complex out of laminated wooden beams and cross- laminated timbers. You just need someone who is willing to be the pioneer.

Oh, I know that, but if I went I imagine I'd be required to bring my wife and then 'expensive' becomes the world's second greatest understatement right after 'The Oilers Kind of Suck.'

Oh, well in that case you're probably screwed. You can't walk 10 feet there without running into a luxury watch boutique. Your only hope would be to convince her you're actually going to dictatorial Swaziland, not Switzerland, and leave her at home.

Thanked for 'Dictatorial Swaziland.'
The lie that I'd have to come up with to justify that would have to be a whopper.

Would there be an option to cut and cover Bow Trail? Seeings how they have to take out the contaminated soil anyway. That would give them more space to play with.

I get you are just trying to mock up a crude rendering speeddog. Thanks.
But imagine if this was the rendering, the exact rendering, microsoft toolbar and all, that Ken King used at the announcement. It would pretty much be the most awesome thing ever.

Like I said, crude mock-up - was just trying to show the nay-sayers that the space is there for a combined arena, stadium and fieldhouse. I suspect Ken King would've had something quite a bit more professional looking to present.
On a side note, if this is where everything is going to go, there very well may not be a need to re-align any of the Bow Trail lanes. 14th Street might need a bit of reworking and maybe put in some sort of a people mover to get people from the complex into the core - gondola perhaps, don't know if a gondola would have the capacity needed though during peak/people event times.

That would be for sure at this location - no free parking to be had anywhere in the near vicinity like there currently is at McMahon. You would have to pay to park to do anything at this facility - there's even free on-street parking not that far from the Saddledome if one knows where to look, actually I'm quite amazed this 2 block long stretch of free, unzoned on-street parking still exists and pretty much on the Stampede Ground's door steps. Certainly there will nothing of the sort near the west village area.
