Now, I think Sven's an awesome player and never got a fair shake recently as his game improved.
......but what you described is exactly what happened before Sven's send-down in 2013-14. Except it was about .5PPG

No. It's depressing. He looked good with sheltered minutes. Never got better when Buffalo increased that. Now he looks awful any time on the ice.

And Flames fans were disappointed.
He won't have that here. He'll most likely see some 4th line time and sheltered minutes. Ease him in, not throw him to the wolves.

Remains to be seen of Baertschi is junk after arriving as a Canuck.

Cop out, If he succeeds in Vancouver it means Calgary was wrong about him...period. if he even turns out better than the 2nd rounder it was a brutal trade. part of me wants him to become an allstar just so Burke looks like the dick he is.

I absolutely will admit Burke was right and I was wrong about the kid if he busts.

This Burke vs Sven disaster reminds me of Riser vs Gilmour disaster.
Perhaps years from now Treliving will come out and say what Riser did - "that he learned not to allow things to get personal". Burke of course doesn't learn.
Either way the fans suffer.

Eh, we don't know how Treliving felt about Sven. He called him up every time he played semi-decently and he usually said good things about him. His hand was forced.
Burke and Hartley were right to send Sven down in 2013 but that doesn't mean Hartley and Treliving wanted Sven traded. Sven wanted Sven traded.

I love all the crying in this thread from the Baertschi supporters. The kid had entitlement issues and it was identified early on by a couple of us on the board, then confirmed by management. Love that he goes to Vancouver where they will have tokeep him on the lineup or look foolish for dumping a 2nd NO ONE ELSE was willing to give. The Swiss Miss will be playing in some lower European league no one cares about within two years. Vancouver will sign him to a one year contract and let him go when he proves he can't play at the NHL level in October.

Or he will be sticking it to Flames for a decade.

He is going to fit in like a glove with Van. The Flames really screwed this one up and I hope they learn from it..

The situations have nothing in common. You are comparing a contract squabble involving, not just one of the Flames' best players at the time - but in the league. A guy that could have easily taken home the Conn Smythe - to a unproven prospect getting traded because he was upset about not getting playing time?
In what ways are the situations common at all?

Exactly how did they screw it up? This is an organization that has demonstrated clearly in recent years that they are willing to play young players.
Let's review
- Sven was given several opportunities to make the team
- He was also given several call-ups
- He was asked to work on his overall game, something most young players are tasked with
- He informed the team he would not re-sign after his current contract expired
- The Flames traded him for the best offer available - a 2nd round pick. No other team in the league offer that.
So how did they screw this up?

Two inexperienced GMs making a decision based on whatever, resulting in the organization being worse. Treliving reminds me of Riser a lot.
Plus there is the personal dislike of the player in both cases.

"based on whatever" - I don't even know what that means.
And how does Treliving remind you of Riser. Cite specifics please.

The "whatever", is the disliking of the player., creating situation of no return. I blame Burke for this, despite Treliving pulling the trigger.
As for the second part, I'm not impressed with Treliving's signings/trades. Two inexperience GMs swayed by opinions of others, making a poor decision.

Interesting listening to the Team 1040 this afternoon. Lots of excitement about Sven. They're expecting a lot. Hopefully he can help them against Winnipeg and LA.

How so? Baertschi plays along the boards because he's scared ####less to go to the middle of the ice, but in the same breath is too small and weak to win battles for the puck. He's a lost aide and the Flames were smart enough to recognize it. Baertschi won't play where his weak shot can score from and his weak shot won't beat goaltenders from the spaces he's willing to go. He's a lost cause and that as been shown by the number of players in the Flams system that surpass him.

so you're saying, without a doubt, that baertschi is, right now, a complete bust who will never make an impact in the nhl?

Until Sven proves he is an impact player in the NHL, I don't really care what he does in the AHL. It was obvious he wasn't going to succeed with the Flames.
