Sign him now, shave a few shillings, maintain cap space in the future.
Not sure what else the delay is here. The team should have had a plan in place if it was easy as good enough/not good enough for the NHL

Flames recall Sam Bennett. UPD: Flames still deciding on AHL or NHL
I think we're going to see Bennett in a Flames jersey before the end of the year. Probably vs Phoenix

Wasnt that the delay with Gaudreau? They couldn't bring him up until he signed, hence Conroy flying out last year to get it done?

I'm checking this thread every 5 minutes thinking a decision will has been made. Can't believe they are taking this long to decide where he's going. I understand it's a somewhat difficult decision but they have had plenty of time to think about it.

Different rules for different leagues. Can't play in the NCAA if you have a signed a professional contract

They've probably made the decision already, just not disclosed it.

Just throwing a potential scenario out there, but we might not have cap space in 16-17 due to Hudler/Giordano/Gaudreau/Monahan/Russell/Backlund/Brodie/Bouma's raises. One way we can make cap space that season is to buy out a few of Engelland / Smid / Raymond / Bollig's 16-17 cap hits. In that scenario, correct me if I am wrong but parts of their hit woukd count against the 17-18 cap. If we burn Sam's 2014-15, it means he's got a significsnt raise in 17-18 as well. But if we limit him to 9 games it means those buyouts are off the book just as Sam is getting his first real contract in 18-19.
Like I said, I'd love to go deep in the playoffs this season but honestly without Mark Giordano I am happy if we're there at all.

I'm thinking the Diaz injury has muddled plans up a bit. The Flames have lost their last recall before the end of the season and with Wotherspoon being called up have probably lost any chances of Adirondack making the playoffs.

I sure hope so. Otherwise, would appear to be a fairly unprepared management group for something that has been a good possibility for the last couple of days.

Not sure what the delay is here then to be honest. I know there has to be a reason, but I sure can't think of one.
Correct me if I'm worng:
- Flames used up their last call up with Wotherspoon
- because he was "loaned" to the Frontenacs he wouldn't count towards the callups
- if they send him to AHL he can't come up until playoffs
Kid has potential to be a gamebreaker, and we play 2 of the worst teams in the league in the next few days. What's the worst that can happen? He plays poorly? I doubt Sam Bennett is going to cost us hockey games, and whoever he replaces won't be winning us games.
He might upset the apple cart with the always earned mantra? I think most guys in Adirondack will undertand if the Flames give their new bike a spin. They can't get get called up right now anyway.
Jooris or Granlund get upset for being scratched? Isn't that a good thing? Motivation and all
As far as I'm concerned, based on what I read and see, the kid is ready for at least a look. I'd rather have him in against Edmonton and Phoenix that in against a first round opponent, which could be anyone from Anaheim to ST louis, to Nashville, or whoever. If I'm one of those teams I'm going to run over the shiny new bike, just like Chelios tried to do to Iginla when he came in.

Well with that injury we have used our last call up which makes no sense for Sam to be sent to Adriondack considering we can't bring him up anymore if we try calling him up from there.
He gets sent free to Calgary with if we go straight from the OHL

Your doing mental cartwheels to create a scenario whereby his contract might have an impact one year earlier. And keep in mind, if it WERE a case whereby they were tight in 2017/18, there is always the option of a bridge contract.
Compare that to the 2nd round of the playoffs.
The number of variables with respect to the cap situation in 3 years is virtually unlimited.
I could also throw out a potential example whereby several more kids make the team and they are fighting to reach the floor and were wishing his contract came due a year earlier.
It's all speculation. Playoffs are not.

Don't underestimate the D that are still there. Morrisson, Cundari, Kulak, Stevenson, Acolatse, Ramage, Sieloff. They're not NHLers but they're not playing NHLers either.

How is it that this isn't confirmed either way yet? It's been almost 24 hours and the rumor has been out there since last night.
LOL this team can be so secretive - like Gio's injury!

Except the Diaz injury changed the situation.
The over-reaction here is unreal. This is part of what I hate about the Internet. When information is available in real-time, people except everything to happen RIGHT NOW.
They will make a decision and we will find out what it is.

Yeah, but they're 6 back with 8 games to play. And they have to pass 4 teams. And they don't have a goalie.
They have been playing below .500 hockey for a while now.
