So this thread can likely be changed to Bennett to the AHL with the Spoon callup

Not the expert, but I thought the recall rule is from AHL to NHL.
A player from junior would be handled differently?

He can still be assigned to Calgary, it's not a call up as his season is over.

How many call ups does a team get? Is it normal to run out of them at the end of the year?

NHL teams have 4 recalls once the trade dead line passes
Then they have emergency recalls

Intersting I thought Sureloss confirmed that recalling Bennett to the big club counted against the 4 recalls post deadline?

Of late, the power play has cooled off going 1-for-14 in the last six games. A key goal on the man advantage in the next week could mean the difference of making the playoffs or not. Time to up the skill level on that second group and get them help right now in the guy wearing No. 63.

This. For certain, Bennett couldn't be any worse. Over the last little while, it seems we are only receiving one minute power plays since, once the #1 unit is done, we're basically back to even strength.

Burning a year with Bennett will be taken much more seriously by this club and is a much harder thing for the Flames to swallow and do, especially if it ends up resulting in very little added experience for this team and Bennett.

What I'm saying is that you bring him in and he contributes toward makng playoffs and even getting to a round 1 game 7 or better it's all with it.
Just one opinion from a playoff starving fan.

When it comes to defencemen, is an emergency callup deemed applicable when you only have six defencemen available? Or five?

An emergency callup can be used if you can't dress 12 forwards 6 defencmen and 2 goalies due to injury or illness.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
My understanding on Bennett is #Flames still deciding. Very fluid situation. Belief is he's AHL bound, but all options still on the table.

I assumed that was your thought, but what I didn't understand was the Arnold comparison as a reason to back up the thought. Burning a year on Arnold is not the same situation in regards to a Flames playoff push, or the factors that would come into play on the individual player level.

It makes no sense to send him to the A. None whatsoever.

Yeah you're right. Different for sure.
I'm mainly making a case that they can get him in and not burn the year unless there's mucho awesomeness happening with him and the team.

Flames could use him; he improves the roster without doubt....this seems like a no brainer. In a fight for our playoff lives we need all the help we can get.
This is an elite prospect; there should be no worry about rushing him too fast or anything....pretty sure he is one of our best 12 forwards today....

So there is potentially 0 benefit extending his season a little and having him play his first pro games at the AHL level. I won't pretend to know what is actually best for him, but suggest that it makes no sense to send him there seems silly. Lots of benefits getting him some more games and getting to experience a level of play he has yet to experience.
