You say that like it means if the Flames were willing to burn a year on Arnold it should be a no brainer with Bennett? The Flames would be a lot more concerned about burning a year with Bennett than they would be a prospect of Arnold's calibre. Pretty sure Bennett is being seen right now as a player with the potential to be a long term high impact player for this club, much less so with Arnold. Burning a year with Bennett will be taken much more seriously by this club and is a much harder thing for the Flames to swallow and do, especially if it ends up resulting in very little added experience for this team and Bennett.

Can someone remind me, if we send him to Addy, can we then call him up after or is that that?

I could be wrong, but I don't think he can get called up if he is sent to Adirondack.

No...he can be called up but at that point the Flames will be out of callups until the season has passed. A bit dicey when you consider there could be injures to dmen between saturday and the years ending critical games.

agreed ....Especially since Diaz was hurt last night, no clue if its serious but the Flames would need to keep the last recall with a Dman I would think...

So what you are saying is calling him up to Addy has used up our last call up as an org? Meaning for the remainder of the regular season we have to stick with the players we have with the big club right now, even if there are injuries, there would be no emergency call up process?

But IF we made the playoffs we could start to call up folks again?

If so, I'd say the injury thing being an issue, especially on the forward ranks given the bodies we do have is a minimal risk down the stretch.

From a team and development of Bennett perspective I think I like this move. Don't like the message to the rest of the team that has played lights out all year and currently sits in a playoff spot that the management felt they needed to bring someone else in to help them get it done. It will feel like they don't believe in the group, and at least for the first few games (which is all we have left anyway) not sure Bennett would be a huge upgrade, as I suspect he'll take a few to find his game like JG did at the NHL level. And. For Bennett, I'm not sure I like him having to come in for the most important 4 games of the season with half the fan base labelling him as the saviour (as though this team even needs saving) that will push us over the top and into the playoff promise land. Too much pressure and expectation off the hop for what will hopefully be a long career with the Flames!

Perhaps Bennett is joining the baby Flames for a practice because he wouldn't get to Edmonton in time to join the Flames for one?

Agreed. Would be best to keep that call up spot for Wotherspoon.

If he's with the Baby Flames, it's not surprising. Treliving is clearly in no rush to bring players along too quickly. That's not a bad thing at all. I'd rather be overly cautious.

I'm fine with it either way, I want to see what Bennett can do and I also thought the Flames could use some re-reinforcements right about now, but at the same time I'm perfectly okay with allowing the group that got this far to do their best to cross the finish line on their own. They earned it.

No...i mean that he can join Addy but Calgary would still have one callup remaining...however if they wanted him to play one game in Addy THEN call him up, they would be out of them until the season ends at which time they can callup as many as they like.

I think if he was part of getting the Flames to game 6 or 7 of the first round of the playoffs, management would be ok with that.
Flames would also generate what? Maybe 10M from making it versus not? If management thinks he helps them get there, he is in.

Edit: devo already said it
Based on what they are charging for first round tickets, I'd say they will be pulling in about 4-4 billion dollars in the first round......approximately.

The team is so close to making the playoffs. Making absolutely no moves at the deadline to help is one thing but with 4 games left and likely 3 wins required this player can add a huge spark. The team is basically an1 line unit right now. Bennett is not the savior this year but is the best player we can add to our roster for free right now.

Make a move to get this team in Brad!

I'd love to see Bennett as much as the next guy, but from a long-term perspective it just makes no sense to burn a year off his ELC.
No that is not what would happen.

Monahan and Gaudreau need new deals after next season - for the start of the 2016/17 season.

IF - huge if - Bennett played 10 games, his ELC would expire after the 2016/17 season and he would need a new contract for the 2017/18 season.

There is no threat of colliding with the other 2.

And again, that only happens if he plays 10 games.

I am all for saving the ELC, but anyone who would choose ELC over playoff success needs their head examined.

And there is another factor. If he goes to Adi first, he then falls into the problem of there only being one more call-up available. However, if he comes straight to Calgary, he avoids that and the Flames retain their last call-up.

Haynes makes several good points.

As a STH, I liked the one about rewarding the fans.

I also liked the one about rewarding Bennett - he has worked his arse off all year and all he wants is to get into an NHL game.

From the Haynes article...

Quote:
Stajan - 0 goals in his last 11
Raymond - 0 goals in his last 13, 1 in his last 20
Bollig - 0 goals in his last 17, 1 in his last 60
Backlund - 1 goal in his last 10
Shore - 1 goal in his last 10
Jooris - 1 goal in his last 11
Granlund - 1 goal in his last 17
Ferland - 1 goal in his last 22
Colborne - 1 goal in his last 30
Byron - 1 goal in his last 36
Yikes - is there any doubt he could help the team?
