He would not be considered a last call-up... if he goes to AD then gets called up then yeah...

If a Dman gets hurt wouldn't we be in position to call up a guy from Addy on an emergency basis?

Call the guy up! He will be a beast for us if we make playoffs.
I want to actually go far in the playoffs. All hands on deck.

The only reason it makes sense to bring him up to the Flames is depth. I think he has more meaningful time in the AHL plus it's better for his development.
I'm surprised the NHL vote is as high as it is, when most people still know/understand/argue that we are still so early in the rebuild. You guys still want us to stock up on assets sometimes at the expense of losing our veterans, but want to catapult a rookie with no regular season experience into the playoffs?
Weird position in my opinion. Course, I haven't checked to see if the pro NHL crowd have many of the same guys as the 'sell everything you can for assets' crowd. With numbers this high though, I assume there is significant overlap.

Bring him up! the kid deserves it. Plus he could be our 2015 version of Fleury coming up for the playoffs.

I believe Bennett deserve a chance to play. Does he improve the Calgary Flames right now? I would argue yes as I am just not sure how he could contribute less than Raymond or Colborne at the moment.

People really need to lay off of Colborne.

However, that type of thinking is very much a 'we are in a rebuild phase, wins now mean nearly nothing, let's max out our return and build our young guys'. So, if one is a fan of that thinking, bringing Bennett up to the NHL is completely counter intuitive to that plan. Seeing as the numbers for both groups are so high, I am just assuming that there are people that want both things, which makes no sense.
Though probably more of it has to do that these people just like to see trades, or trades of players they don't like, and less of the actual mechanics of team building. Which is why they don't realize putting Bennett in the NHL right now is not good for him or building the team. They more just like to see action and moves. Putting in an exciting rookie makes sense then, even if it's not good for the long haul.

I wish everyone would quit saying this. Fleury played 35 NHL games during the regular season, he wasn't some hotshot junior who showed up in the playoffs. He was a third line player for half the season and in the playoffs.

Why? He is not producing, he is turning pucks over, and he is taking dumb penalties.

This is all about developing our young talent. This team has done a great job of bringing along our young talent such as Monahan, Gaudreau, Jooris, etc. And the same will go for Sam. He won't be brought in and be expected to carry the team in the playoffs - it all about giving him the experience and the exposure - that will prove invaluable to his development.

No it's not. There's nothing 'anti-rebuild' about bringing him up.
If he's ready, let him play - the experience would be good for his development.

Not sure what this means, but if someone gets hurt, I'd rather have Spoon out there over Potter for sure, even if its for 8 minutes (which I doubt, 11-12 to start I could see)

Is this actually true? I swear I saw that calling up Bennett still uses our last call-up

Well, I guess we can argue that point. I think it's anti-development. He hasn't played a single regular season game, we are going to throw him into the fire? There's literally no downside to letting him take it a step at a time.
Let's think like the Wings here. Slow and steady with development. He'll have a whole camp next year to warm up, and pretty much everyone thinks he'll make it. Why rush it more than that?
For the record, this is pretty much a 65-35 thing for me. There probably isn't a huge problem with having him play here either. It would be fun to watch him, I agree. I'm not railing against it, just presenting my arguments. I just don't get the point of it. As I said, let's copy the success of the best development team in the league. Even the slim chance of this affecting his development in a negative way when there is no reason to isn't worth it, as there is no real reason for him to be here anyway.
There's lots of time in the future playing in the NHL will be good for his development.

Daradon, do you think that is Bennett had been fully healthy he would have made the team, based what he showed before shutting it down for surgery?

Some of you make it seem like he needs to have Gaudreau point production in order for him to not be a whipping boy.
He had a rough March. Move on.
