Because Michael Stone is an established NHLer, and Baertschi at this point is a tweener
The Coyotes barely have any forwards with scoring potential, Baertschi would have been a good piece to pick up. They do just fine finding defenseman, but it probably made no sense trading Stone after Yandle and Michalek were traded.
“I think one of the interesting things about the Ducks is they hold the key to I think a lot of off-season goaltending decisions. They’ve had a lot of teams – I think Edmonton has been one of them. Buffalo, Toronto have been among the teams that call them and say, ‘What are you doing with Andersen and Gibson? What’s your plan? How much longer until you decide you have to move one of them?’
“Knowing the Ducks being kind of a budget team, I think their preference is the two of them combined next year make $1.9 million under the cap. So I think that’s their goal, is to keep them together for one more year.
“But if they have a terrible playoff, and you can see a situation where they might, I wonder if all bets are off and one of those two guys goes.
“So I think Bob Murray has a lot of control over how the goaltender market is going to work this summer.”
Oh man, don't get me started again on my desire to see the Flames land Tikhonov. I seriously think there's a lot more he can show when he gets back to the NHL.

Hmm Flames scout Derek MacKinnon just tweeted that he is in St. Petersburg about to sample vodka for dinner.
Who in St. Petersberg could he be watching? Top KHL free agent Artemy Panarin? Tikhonov also plays for St. Petersberg but I believe he is injured.
Panarin had 3 assists in a 4-1 win over Moscow today.
Or perhaps just catching up with Cervenka, Kovalchuk and Belov who also play for St. Petersburg.
The ruble has devalued by about 50% - doesn't buy you nearly as many USD as it once did - wonder if that has any experienced names like Kovalchuk pondering a return to the NHL?

Already been discussed in other threads but for Kovalchuk to return to the NHL without sitting out a year of pro hockey, would require unanimous decision from all 30 NHL teams.
In other words not happening.

wow, the defense he goes around or is within 10 feet of him sure look like pylons.
Not a chance he gets the time to load up like that in the NHL without being shown the shiny side of the ice face first.
Same issue Cervenka had here...NHL D. BIG, MEAN, Can skate and know how to play. Its also why we never talk about KHL D coming over to play.

Came here to post something similar here.
This video reminds me of the Cervenka video in years past where we all got excited to see what he can do, problem is the soft D in the KHL means guys like this don't translate well into the NHL unfortunately (most of the time)
Wont see me getting my hopes up for anything out of the KHL.
