It doesn't hurt to get the nod as rookie of the month (nor does the Calder). I just hope he continues doing what he's doing, since to me the recognition doesn't help us win games.
If the recognition helps his confidence, all the better.

Assuming he's eligible for all performance bonuses at the minimum level, he has already maxed out his $850,000 with more than 20 goals, 35 assists, and 60 points, plus playing in the All Star Game.

So the Calder bonus is league-based, not contract-based? Is this true for all players?
I was under the impression that bonuses for trophies were written into the SPC.

I think you are correct. The money comes from the Flames.

ROTY. Shouldn't even be a nail biter of a decision. But it will be. Johnny still wins it. Press for Ekblad has fallen off of the map and Forsberg has plateaued so it seems.

The league automatically gives a cash award for being in the top 3 of the Calder. The league award doesn't count towards the cap
Teams and players can negotiate additional bonuses that are paid out by the team and do count against the cap.
From Capgeek before they got shutdown:
Quote:
Schedule B bonuses, with criteria and amounts outlined in the tables below, are automatically paid by the league and do not need to be written into an entry-level contract. Schedule B bonuses paid by the league do not count against the team's salary cap.
However, a player and club may agree to any compensation for the Schedule B categories listed blow, provided the maximum aggregate amount does not exceed $2 million. That means up to $2 million can be earned by achieving just one Schedule B bonus criteria (ie. Calder Trophy win). Schedule B bonuses paid by the team count against the team's salary cap.
Following is a list of Schedule B bonuses that are automatically paid by the league and likewise the categories that can be negotiated between the team and player.
LEAGUE-WIDE AWARDS/TROPHIES
Hart, Norris, Vezina, Selke, Richard
Winner: $250,000
Second: $200,000
Third: $150,000
Fourth: $100,000
Fifth: $50,000
Lady Byng
Winner: $150,000
Second: $100,000
Third: $50,000
Jennings
Winner: $50,000 * pro-rated share if co-winner
Calder
Winner: $212,500
Second: $150,000
Third: $100,000
All-Star Team
1st Team: $100,000
2nd Team: $50,000
Conn Smythe
Winner: $250,000

At the very least Johnny's got a nice cheque coming.
How much does Russell get if he wins the Masterton?

I'm not sure that'll be known. We only know Johnny's because ELCs are public and standardized. Russell's may or may not be there

If you are a finalist for one of the end-of-season awards given out by the league, you receive a bonus paid by the league of a set value depending on the award and your place in the final vote. For the major awards (Hart, Vezina, Norris, Selke, Richard), they pay a bonus to the top 5. The Byng and Calder only pay bonuses to the top 3. For the Jennings and Conn Smythe, only the winner receives a bonus.
The league-wide top 10 in the various statistical categories for each position also receive bonuses paid by the league, as do the players named to the end-of-season All Star teams.
These league-paid bonuses are outside the player's contract and don't count towards any cap calculations.
In addition to the league-paid bonuses, entry-level players can also negotiate individual bonuses for winning any of the major awards or statistical top 10 lists. These bonuses can be for any value up to $2 million each, and cannot exceed a payout of $2 million combined. The Calder and Byng trophies are not eligible for these extra bonuses on a player's contract.
These bonuses are part of a player's contract and do count against the cap if they are paid out (that is one reason the Hawks got in cap trouble after they won the Cup, Toews had a big bonus for winning the Conn Smythe Trophy).
All of these bonuses are considered "B" bonuses and are difficult for a player to achieve. There are also "A" bonuses that are easier to achieve that deal with individual performance. "A" bonuses max out at $850,000 per year, are paid by the team and count against the Cap. Johnny should have maxed out his "A" bonuses this season.
Monahan will also likely receive maximum "A" bonuses this year.

It must be a weird feeling as a GM watching your best player tear it up in the playoffs and lead your club to a championship... meanwhile the whole time you are praying he doesn't win the Conn Smythe haha.

It happened to the Blackhawks, when Toews won the Conn Smythe, the bonus rolled over to the next year's cap making it more difficult to re-sign some of their guys.

55 points in march for this line alone. That's insane especially considering how low scoring is this year, no one even close to flirting with 100 points which is kinda sad but indicitive of where this league seems to be trending. The conditioning of players is as good as its ever been, goalies are better equipped and defences seem more willing to get in front of lanes more than ever which I think is a big reason to why there are so many battles going on for playoff spots this year. I know we as fans want offense first and foremost but I can't remember a season where I have been more excited about the defensive contributions of my team and through-out the league with guys like Hammond busting on to the scene. The playoffs should prove to be as awesome as ever this year! Here's to the final 5 game march and an awesome top line in Gaudreau/Monahan/Hudler !!

From Flames' website announcing his award - he tripped in his room Monday night and hurt his nose!
http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?...id=DL|CGY|home
Quote:
ST. LOUIS, MO -- On Monday night in Dallas, Johnny Gaudreau selflessly threw himself in front of a hard shot at the end of a tight game between the Flames and Stars, denying his opponents a chance to tie the contest.
Given the velocity of the blast, one may expect him to be a little worse for wear at practice in St. Louis on Wednesday.
Instead, he was sporting a large scrape across one side of his nose -- a souvenir he picked up after an incident in he and Josh Jooris' hotel room.
In the middle of the night, on route to the bathroom, he tried to make sure he didn't wake up his roommate but ended up causing a bit of a commotion instead.
"He was sleeping so I couldn't turn the lights on. It was pitch dark. There was a bench -- I didn't know there was a bench in the room -- I tripped right over the bench and hit my nose on the wall."

Even maxed out on every rookie contract performance bonus he's still a bargain.
Well done, Johnny!

Awesome news for Johnny, hopefully his play down the stretch here will solidify him as the Calder winner.
I was just looking up Ottawa's Mark Stone's stats and they are pretty crazy as well.
54 points in 74 games. That guy is a legit steal in the 6th round of the 2010 draft.
