Sean Monhan wise beyond his 20 years

As per usual, fans in Dallas never would have been able to guess that Monahan is the youngest guy on Calgary’s roster, that he’s not even old enough to order a Sam Adams south of the border or that he was ... get this ... born seven-and-a-half months after Justin Bieber.
Heck, if the Flames didn’t have the documentation to prove it, head coach Bob Hartley might not even believe it.
“Surprised, impressed ... Gosh, those words are not even good enough,” Hartley said. “My English is not good enough to find the right word to say how much I appreciate coaching Sean Monahan. His consistency, for a 20-year-old kid, is just amazing.”
It’s not just his consistency.
It’s his contributions, too.

Bob has earned the Jack

There can be no question anymore: Bob Hartley is the NHL’s coach of the year.
He should be the Jack Adams Trophy winner, especially if the Calgary Flames make the playoffs.
For proof, look no further than the top-8 standing the Flames enjoyed on their off day Tuesday.
For examples of his coaching brilliance you could tune in on any given night to see the work ethic he’s demanded all year.

Great March

The 31-year-old Hudler capped a memorable March with a goal and an assist in Monday’s 5-3 win over the Dallas Stars, finishing with 10 tallies and 13 helpers and leading the Flames to a 9-3-3 record this past month. In 15 games, he had nine multi-point performances and was blanked just three times.
Heading into Tuesday’s action around the league, no other guy had collected more than 18 points in March.

Hartley's comment about Monahan's hockey IQ as one of the best he's ever seen is incredibly high praise, in considering some of the players that he has coached over the years.

So glad that the Flames were able to draft him at 6th overall.

When Sean and Lance drive out together, I get Sean's autograph and he's in full boringmonahan mode—monotone voice, just expressionless overall. Then I go get Lance's autograph and also ask for a picture, which was all great. During this I thought Sean was signing everyone else's autographs over on the other side.

Well I get home, open up the pictures on my laptop and then I see something... a face back there in the darkness. So I lighten the photo, and sure enough, there's Sean photobombing. Sticking his tongue out and everything.

I am amazed and impressed with the amount of knowledgeable female fans that are on this site!
I always like reading a post and then realizing it was a female and feeling as though I need to re read it in a different voice

It completely blows my mind that the League didn't even review the Ritchie hit. Suspension, yes or no, but at the very least there should have been a review and a decision. Sure, Ritchie's in the minors now, but you can't crack down on headshots and just leave that one floating in limbo where no one knows if it was legal or not. Especially when it was called on the ice as a two-minute high-sticking penalty (which it clearly was not).

To be honest, I feel like I've read more guys on this site gush over Henrik's eyes than ladies (not that there's anything wrong with that!)

I saw Monahan wearing that hat on TV the other day. So either they went to the store and bought matching hats, or they are sharing clothes. Either way, it's hilarious.

On Monday, the team wrapped up Segment 11 with a 5-3 win in Game 7 and are heading into Segment 12 -- a five-game sprint, as Hartley has dubbed it -- on Thursday in St. Louis.
"We told the boys that had finished our three-game road trip with two wins out of three and now we're starting a two-game road trip. The day off yesterday was great. It was beautiful outside, right outside the ballpark, so I'm sure that guys got some fresh air. It was a good day to relax.
"Today, the boys were sharp at practice. We had good legs. We were jumping. Tomorrow, it's another big test."

The method has worked out.
"I told them, 'Make sure we're good in those seven game segments and you'll see that we're going to be in the picture,'" Hartley reminisced.
"Not that I'm a great guy with math or anything but I knew that by being good in our seven-game segments -- despite the fact that we had that awful one, eight-game slide -- we would be right there."

Hartley views this neck-and-neck battle for postseason positions as an incredible learning experience for his crew, particularly the youngsters in the group.
"This is the best time of the year. We put ourselves in a situation where we can enjoy those games, where we can learn about the process of being a playoff team. There's no victories yet. You saw the guys at practice -- they're focused, they're on the job, they understand our situation.
"What's most impressive is that we have lots of young players that [are] growing in our situation. They're not scared, they're not rattled. They're going and they're going hard. It has been lots of fun."

The pair and their pivot, Sean Monahan, have shouldered a lot of responsibility throughout the course of the season and show no signs of slowing down as the regular season winds down.
"Those guys are playing the game the right way and that's why I don't hesitate one second to play them a lot," Hartley said. "Right now, the schedule is kind of working in our favour. There's no more two games in two nights, travel is good. Expect to see a lot of them."
Monahan has loved centering the two wingers this season and has felt their game has progressed as the year as rolled along.
"It's fun. Hockey is always fun but it's even better when you're doing well and winning hockey games," Monahan said. "It's fun to play with Johnny and Huds out there. We're making plays and we're enjoying it."
