Can Johnny Gaudreau hit his last years NHLE of 67 points?
With 5 games left in the season he needs 7 points in his remaining 5 games. With the way he has been playing I think he has a great shot at it.
When I first seen the 67 point NHLE before the season I thought it was an impossibility. I have never been more happy to be wrong. His play over the last 10 games has been absolutely mind blowing. His all around game tonight with the great goal followed by the last minute block followed by the diving pass block really cemented him in as a frontrunner for the Calder in my mind.
His enthusiasm for the game is such a treat to watch. With the way his confidence is growing daily I am so excited to see him finish off the season strong and hit his NHLE.
Do you think he can hit it?

I'll say yes only because we're playing Edmonton and Arizona and he could easily have 2-3 point games in both of those.

Johnny missed game 6 of the season as a healthy scratch. The max games he can play this season is thus 81. Therefore his NHLE goal is 66 not 67 as NHLE assumes 82 games played.
He has to get 6 points in the next 5 games.
It's gonna be unlikely to get points against the Blues and the Kings (we can win those games, but I'd bet on depth scoring), so most of his points will have to come against the Coyotes, Oilers, and maybe Jets.
I think Johnny can do it.

How so? It's just meant to get an idea of how a players offense will translate to the NHL.

Pavel Brendl ring a bell?
Roman "best-player-not-in-the-NHL" Cervenka ring a bell?
Sven Baertschi??
To me it's useless because you can't apply a metric to a guys jr or russia numbers and expect to be able to predict his NHL numbers at all.

Don't care - it's a non-milestone IMO.
However, I very much care that he has hit 60. Since Kane had 72 in 2007/08 here are the top rookie seasons:
Skinner: 63 2010/11
MacKinnon: 63 2013/14
Gaudreau: 60 2014/15
He has a very good chance of having the best rookie campaign since Patrick Kane - coincidence?

Sure you can. The variance is huge, to be sure. But the correlation is clear, and it works well enough to be a pretty decent indicator.

Obviously it's not a perfect system, and nobody expects it to be, but it's based on numbers of players that have made the jump from the other various leagues to the NHL. It's just a way to see how it might translate, I don't think anybody actually takes it seriously.

I would think the NHL E number for this season would be lower considering it's looking like 88 points will lead the league in scoring.

With games left against Edmonton and Arizona anything possible. Those a 2 games where he can pad his stats.

Cervenka's NHLE was 49
Cervenka was returning from a scary blood condition wasn't he? his conditioning was worse than Mike Richards' conditioning at that point in the season. It did not stop him from posting 17 points in 39 games even if he was pretty soft on the puck like Mason Raymond. It was pretty clear he needed to spend a full year in the NHL and with a proper training camp to even get a hang of things.
Despite all of those things going against him, his pace that season was for 36 points.
NHLE can't predict the context of his rookie year, but that doesn't mean Cervenka would have been as poor a player for us as he was in a regular season with a regular training camp and no medical problems.
Baertschi's NHLE was 49 points in an 82 game season based on his last year of Junior. His first 51 games in the league, he scored 25 points. That would have put him on a pace for about 40 points which isn't exactly a world off, especially considering how often he was getting the hook for his defense.
Again, NHLE can't predict TOI and it can't predict context. But it's still a useful tool to get an idea across leagues of what a player's production is worth.
