What an extraordinarily gutsy effort by the Calgary Flames tonight. They even outdid themselves. I was in awe the last few minutes just how hard these guys play. And they have played hard all season, but tonight was another level.
That Dallas team is very very good and easily the most dangerous offensive team in the league. First goal was brutal but Hiller fought hard as did the team in front of him. Make no mistake, the Flames were not very good in many parts of that game, especially with regard to composure in clearing their zone. But their effort made up for a lot of mistakes.
Anyone who has watched the Flames all season will tell you that their much-publicized advanced stats are simply not all that applicable. They have gotten good goaltending and tremendous commitment to blocking shots. But most importantly, Johnny Gaudreau is one of the most offensively gifted players I have ever seen in the National Hockey League. Impressive offensively, but highly-committed defensively. Hudler has of course been great but Gaudreau and Monahan are special players in that they are so very complete. I have never seen young guys contribute in such primary roles for a sustained period and do so in amazingly complete fashion. Truly in awe of what those guys do because they are legitimate top line players and they are so very committed to the defensive side of the game. Haven't seen anything like it.
That was Schlemko's best game in the NHL. Thought it was Brodie's best game since Giordano went down. And thought Engeland was also very good again.
Of course watching that game was interesting because the Stars are the way better hockey team. But the reality is that the Calgary Flames do more with what they have than any team I have seen in the league in the last many years, on par with or superior to the 03-04 Flames and the 12-13 Senators. Still very hard to say if they can make the playoffs, but these guys have played from within in truly profound fashion. It isn't even close as far as Flames history goes except 03-04 of course. But in 03-04 it at least made some sense.
Truly very impressed. And thrilled. Amazing what they have accomplished.

Don't forget New Jersey and, really, San Jose was right in the thick of it before we ripped their hearts out in January/February.

Man, what a finish and what a relief! The Flames has got to be the worse team for puck controls and passes. They had higher percentage carrying out the puck on individual efforts than trying to pass that puck out of their own zone. Same thing with shooting the puck into the offensive zone when it gets shot in and gets carried out. That was a brutal 3rd period.

Last 3 games I've watched: 3 L
Last 3 games I've missed: 3 W
Guess I'm gonna have to take one for the team and stop watching games until the curse is broken.

Woah, woah, woah. The media does not put the flames down constantly. In fact, they have probably had more positive press than anyone

Flames fans have not had the privilege of watching a game that intense since April of 2009. I had almost forgotten what it felt like.
Glad they are off until Thursday; these last two games have clearly taken a lot out of the players.

My face is a bum!

Our Jonas and Karrie are better than their Jonas and Kari
Edit: seriously, someone posted that already? I was all excited to look clever. Instead I just demonstrated I can't spell.

42 wins....suck it Dallas, suck it Edmonton.
At this point San Jose winning out get to 95 points. Dallas can max out at 94. So it's pretty much down to 3 teams playing for two spots and two of them are behind the Flames.
Killed off Colorado, now Dallas. Next, kill off the Kings!

HUGE difference from years past. I've spent at least 20-25 games watching other feeds and the representatives of other orgs have really praised this team.
It's a nice thing to see.
