The Dave at Med Hat who later went to Northlands in Calgary? haha, if so, I worked for that guy too.

I will fight until the bitter end to avoid buying big ticket items online.

This sucks.

Again, if you are looking for an excellent place to shop as an alternative, London Drugs locations equipped with full AV depts are surprisingly well stocked, have some of the most knowledgeable salespeople you will find, and a great price match policy. Plus they tend to be an awesome place to go for iOS devices on release date, instead of lining up like a sheep at the Apple store.

I have pretty much made every Brick and Mortar camera/electronics purchase I have made the last 10 yrs at the Heritage location. And they have always matched the Big Box guys and Amazon Prime.

London Drugs has some surprisingly good sales and clearance promotions on electronics and camera gear from time to time.

I always found they carried very few big brands. Is that still the case?

Yeah, add me to the 'not happy' list.

I don't like BB, it's impossible to get help and all the staff seem disinterested, and often, functionally ######ed.

FS on the other hand, was always my first stop (unless it was Sony and then it was Sony Style). I'd go there for service, the reasonable selection of product and I'd always get a good deal.

I guess it's Memory Express or online for me now...

I buy most of my big-ticket items online for my office, like computers and printers and things like that. Its awesome, I typically buy from Costco and they deliver it to my door!

Cant beat that.

Yup that's probably him.

He was an assistant manager at McLeod when I started there.

Canadian owned and operated, from what I understand.
Calgary, too.

They started out as a little place by Chinook in the 90's. You had to go to a little window and ask for what you wanted, and they would go grab it from a shelf in the back. Best prices at the time. Then they got a bigger location right on McLeod, later opening one in the NE, then expanding to Edmonton, Richmond BC and Winnipeg and the Dalhousie store in the 2000's. The NE and Macleod locations both moved to bigger locations as well.

Memory Express was actually started by an old Futureshop guy.

Dave Armstrong? Short dude, high strung? He became Store Manager at Northland when I worked there. That guy was something else.

Flashback lol. Used to know a guy who used to work at the McLeod location. He's now like a team leader for world financial group. Tried to recruit me a few years back lol. I sure dodged that bullet.

Yup ... he was "intense".

I'm surprised people didn't witness him having a stroke on several occasions. He started as store manager too when I was there. We must have worked together haha.

I worked with the brothers that started Memory Express. They offered a few of us jobs, once upon a time. I figured their little store had no chance and would be dead in 6 months because it was around the same time that Doppler moved into town. Yeah...

I also worked with the guy that started The Computer Rack. He was a selling machine back then, but completely cold-blooded.

Though I was always more of a MemEx guy going back to the days of the take-out window store by Chinook - I still did buy smaller items like Discmans and what not at FutureShop. Lots of time spent at the old mid mall Northland location (I think I even took a Spare to basically hang out at the mall....)

Reading all these sales stories - I feel like such a chump... I never haggled on pricing - just paid the sale price or whatever and off I went. Never an extended warranty though.

Who knew...who knew....

Visions: We'll sell you last year or the year before's model of everything and brag about how it's 10% cheaper than Best Buy's this year model of the same item!

...and the best part is; You can't price compare and see that we're overpricing last years models because no other major retailer is selling last years models!
